I'm thinking of a buying a new Mk 6 Golf, I have read on another site that some of the engines in the new mk 6 Golf are going to be replaced, I really don't wan't to buy a new car and find out that 6 months later the engine will be obsolete.

Does anyone have any further information on what petrol or diesel engine are going to be replaced in the current Mk6 line up?

The engines in the VI are a new/revised set of engines - a 1.4 turbo, a 1.4 Twincharged. and a 2.0 diesel turbo. The GTI will have a 2.0 Turbo, and the GTD will have a 2.0 diesel turbo with more output than the base one.

They will not be superceded soon.

most of the current motors have been revised to meet euro V compliancy. they were only updated about 6 months ago.

For the Mk 6 GTI I expect the 2.0 TFSI (turbo petrol engine) to be the new version that has chain drive to the camshafts (but without the variable valve timing the Audi version gets). The US Mk V GTIs have been getting this engine for months.

I found this on another Mark 6 forum.... not sure if this relates to any of the current 1.4 TSI's

I think the engines being replaced are 1.4 (which we don't get) and 1.6 which has already been replaced in OZ by the 1.4TSI

Golf 6 in UK market have bigger selection of engines, a few of which are "older" and thus will be replaced in the near future. But the cars for the Australian market use newer, revised powerplants.

VW may still need to rethink that decision because I think in this day and age and with the current world financial situation people still want variety and options and if they can't get it from a VW they'll look elsewhere :duh: :frown:

Just a thought ....could this decision be related to our diesel standards?

australia has had low sulphur diesel for quite some time now.

i think the gtd will come out but at about the same time as the gti. they practically look the same and have the same specification bar motor.

Don't believe everything that Austral salespeople tell you...

Or VWA for that matter, I enquired about the Pirelli about 3 months before it went on sale, I was told that VWA had no plans to bring them in !!!! I think they already had them in the country at that stage.

If they think it will help them sell you a car now (rather than you waiting for a different model to become available) then some salespeople will tell you almost anything :(

IMHO the whole business model of new and used car sales (commisssions etc) is almost designed to push sales people into behaviour that is NOT in the customer's best interests.

I read in the NRMA mag that VW are introducing a 1.6 turbo diesel later this year with a sub $30K list price. Does anyone know the details?

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

Thanks

The problem is that private sales of diesels have slumped more than petrol cars since the price of fuel dropped. Its probably just not cost effective to import a diesel model that would cost the same as a 2l petrol GTI.

Correct anything under is reserved for the Polo range ;)

1.6 TDI will effectively replace where the 1.9 TDI use to be.

1.6 TDI Specs are
77kW with 250Nm of Torque.
CO2 Emissions 119 g/km.
4.5L per 100km (Combined Cycle).

Any guess on where this car will be situated in the price range? Above or below the 90 1.4TSI ? In the UK its more expensive than the 90 TSI. Also realised (maybe I'm the last to notice it!) but DSG gives better mpg in petrol and worse in Diesel.

A little bit extra over 90TSI I'm expecting.
