Hi fellas, I am sure that the forum members would be glad to have help from the owners of VAG-COM cables around the country.

Other forums have a sticky with the details of members and their availability.

I'll go first.

I have the usb cable and can scan anything except the early 2 wire stuff. I live in Adelaide.

PM me to make contact.

Gavin

Nice idea, will need to sort it into a nice sorted section by state at some stage... ;)

Edit: I now have the genuine cable :)

And have moved to SE Melbourne.

I'm in Campbelltown (Sydney) and have the FleeBay knock off cable but can still do lots of things, just not everything, especially on MkV's. A simple block change or code read/clear should be right though.

I own a licensed VCDS ( Vagcom cable) can scan ANY including the 2 wire jobbies from way back. I have VagTacho for anyone needing distance to empty on your Golf or Bora.( works well if the cluster is VDO). I have a wide range of fuel pressure testers, Vac gauges, stethoscopes, oscilloscope, current clamp. If you are using your own Vchecker etc i can interpret your fault code for you.
i now own a Launch Diagun palm pilot and can read your aunties Bimmer, your uncles Merc and your cousins Nissan.
I am based in Brizzy

Also have the adaptor for the early 2 wire stuff.

Half price scans for VWW members ;)

I've got a V-Checker if anyone want's a scan on a cruise or at a get together just ask as I keep it in the car.
If anyone wants a scan on a weekend or something shoot me a PM and I'll try my best to help.
As with Cogdoc, I'm definitely no guru with it but I can scan modules and clear fault codes no worries.
Also I'm not after any photos of your sis, mum, nana/grandma, daughter, wife, gf, life partner etc...
Should also add that I don't want any photos of the male opposites of the above either or yourself for that matter (wouldn't put it past Coggie though)... ;)
Cheers,
Trent

EDIT: Just a note/head's up, that as I no longer have the R32, I sold the scanner on, so cannot assist anymore. Cheers.

Its for carrying out diagnostic checks of any ECUs in the car, using the OBD port. www.ross-tech.com is the manufacturer and has loads of info.

It's pretty much the same as the system used by the dealer, to check the car out.

I have a knock-off Micro-CAN VAGCOM cable that works with VCDS in shareware mode. I've tested it on my Tiguan and it'll scan for error codes no problem. Should work with any CANBUS based VW.

If you'd like to test it I am in Panania, Sydney.

Hey, I don't know if anyone has seen this before but there is a VAG-COM "How to" document here http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7410

From a quick scan of that thread it appears that most people use the VAG-COM to change vehicle setup options like head lights and electric window operation. But can anyone give examples of when they have used the VAG-COM to diagnose and fix their poor running engine.

I have diagnosed bad coil packs and MAFs with mine. There's so much you can do, providing you can interpret the data you can record. The coil pack may throw up a code. The MAF you can pick by looking at the, g/s output. If it is lower than you expect or more often zero, you have a bad one.

For example if the mixture is going weak at the top end, you have to think about the fuel pump.

Yeah, if there wasn't a fault logged, you would be able to see the output with measuring blocks and go off that.

Spend a little bit more and get VCDS (vag-com) from Ross-Tech. The advantage is the ongoing support.

How much does it cost to be shipped here to australia?

Anyone can PM me and let me know how much did VAG-COM cost them?

Thanks!

robinb

If you look on the Ross-Tech site you will see that Australian suppliers are listed there. An alternative if you want a on-off fix, is to get someone local (typically a slab is the cost as far as I know).
Watch - I got conned by a price quote on the phone. Then that amount was upped by 10% GST when the card docket came through.

How much does it cost to be shipped here to australia?

Anyone can PM me and let me know how much did VAG-COM cost them?

Thanks!I got mine from Mount Auto Equip
I was quoted $339 + $8 Couriers Please and agreed to debit from credit card. Then they debited $381 ie added GST. This is in direct contavention of Trade Practices Act (by law a quote must include GST). I rang them and they would not refund. Don't touch them with a bargepole!

Quote When a price is stated, the Act requires that the total price to be paid, including GST, is clear to the buyer. If you give the impression that the represented price is the full price due when it is only part of the price, you are likely to contravene the Act. An example of this type of contravention is when the price is represented as the total price payable when it actually excludes GST. Unquote

Hi all,

about to take delivery of a 2010 Polo GTI. Would the unit below be OK to do the required programming when I install a RNS510 and other bits? I'm guessing this is a cheap Chinese rip off of the Ross Tech unit. For $35 shipped it seems worth the risk but any thoughts?

Hi Guys,

Anyone able to assist in translating the coding shown on a few web pages for PTT button on steering wheel for 9w7 bluetooth- dealer doesn't know how to do it and say their system looks different - not used to installing these kits and are pleading ignorant. What do I tell them to change? I see the insturctions - but how does it look or get referenced in their system?

Or failing that - anyone in Canberra want to help me out since its a 5 minute job or days of pain with Lennock Motors?

Thanks in advance...

Can this stuff be used to add a key to the car? My 2001 v6 b5.5 passat only has 1 key. Wanted to get a spare key for it and VW quoted me $600+ !! Rang up a few key cutters / locksmiths, and they either quoted me ~800-900 bucks, or flat out said they couldn't do it. One guy I went to said he couldn't do it because he didn't have the codes for the transponder. Could this 'code' be gotten by using one of these devices?

Northern Tasmania. I'm on the West Tamar. Got the full genuine VCDS. Reasonably familiar with how to use it. I've sorted out fault codes, put in tow bar electrics. Changed over a Canbus gateway. About to do an RNS510 radio, bluetooth, parking sensors and rear camera. I'd like to charge something as this thing cost a bit and I do this sort of thing for a living (sort out computers).

MK4 GTI, you can't see the AFR/lambda with VCDS, so that's no help to you. You need an external wideband probe to see it.

What's your known camshaft issue?

Is the car chipped or standard?

My advice, based on the snippets of information. Fuel filter, cheap/quick/easy to fit. A new set of sparkplugs, I have fixed a misfire/hesitation with plugs before. This is not the best way to diagnose the problem really.

Known camshaft issue on an AGU?? keen to hear about that one. Fuel cut ?? under WOT, You have a Gti Mk4, im sure itll be boost cut, Check your vac line to your wastegate. Common to turn to sticky goo and stick together and stop the wastegate opening properly, this will over boost and cut the thing big time, seen it lots on the Mk4, been with VW before the internet came about ( sorry had to drop my new line for the google mechanics and in no way aimed at you my friend, just wanted to christen it) but havent seen any cam issus.
Good luck

Sorry guys it's a 2006 Mkv gti -
There are "known" issues with the spec A camshaft in the earlier Mkv gti's - mine is one and I have experienced something similar to the symptoms so hence the worry :0)
Just to update I have changed the fuel filter - spark plugs are about 35,000ks old and do need a change. But the car pulls hard 1st / 2nd gear and falls flat at WOT
A scan should help isolate the issue/s
Thanks again , I won't expand upon this as its hijacking this thread !

Now we are talking about the right vehicle... You should log measuring blocks 2 31 99 for fuelling, 3 20 22 for ignition, 3 115 118 for boost, 115 112 and 118 for EGTs and 32 111 at idle to check for intake leaks.

Run the car from 1500 revs in 3rd to the redline if you can.

After a scan I think you'll be much wiser. I am in Sydney next week and might be able to help you, but I have a few others to tune first.

Did you see my email, we have that covered now.

I am pretty sure it's had something else loaded previously. I tell you what, you should try the cruise control and see if it suddenly gets a load of power... Just in case it has APR in there and no one said anything.

Sorry for the NOOB question...but

I want to install an RNS510 and parking sensors. I need this to work with my existing reversing camera in split screen mode. VW quoted me $1200 complete job.

So how does this coding work? Is it a matter of getting a VW cable, PC and some software to tell the ECU to talk to the new accessories? Is this actually writing the code?

Where can I read up on this coding as I would like to learn. I'm sure my IT geek skills can be used for good ;)

Most people go for the Ross Tech cable as it can cover all of the VAG family.

To find out how it works check here http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/main_screen.html (http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/recode_screen.html)

Parking sensors will mean you have to remove and drill the rear bumper and then run wiring looms inside your car to a controller and the RNS. It can be done DIY but is a few hours work.

Anyone in Melbourne's west able to help with a trouble-code scan? Check engine light just came on...

I'll set the scene: Just did a 4000km roadie which included maybe 7 fill-ups @ 7 different servo's & wasn't able to get 98 at 2 places, so reverted back to my 95 tune for about 1000k's in the middle somewhere. The final leg was from Newcastle to Melbourne in one hit (1100km's in 12 hours, 2 drivers) last Friday, when it was pretty well 38-40 deg C all the way. Also, in Sydney, i filled up when there wasn't much left in the tank, like a 'range' of 20km's, so probably less than 5 litres left...

Any ideas or anyone can help? Car is running fine now on 98 & 98 tune, but starting is a little 'strained', ie, the motor seems to have to turn over for a couple of seconds before it fires up.

:?:

Thanks.

I've got a genuine Ross Tech Micro-CAN cable in Christchurch NZ, if anyone would like to borrow it. Works perfectly on my other car (a Skoda Octavia Scout), but sadly not on the Polo 6R which only works with the full blown HEX-CAN cable. The genuine Micro-CAN cable is pricey enough, so I don't feel like stumping up another $200-plus for an upgrade. If anyone in my part of the world has the full blown HEX-CAN cable, I'd love to hear from them.

So far ive had to jump start my car as long as i drive it on a regular basis its fine but its only a temporary fix.

Have you bought a new gateway yet? It sounds like you might need one because of the draining. Part 1k0907530 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141043661523) (Letter code L or higher) I think for golf. A recode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8sqeYgkvfM) will not fix draining issues, but will still be required.

Unless your current gateway is one of these (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting), then you are going to need a new gateway. If yours is listed as updatable on that list, then you could get a dealer or someone with a VAG CAN Pro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4FwRIt9prk) to flash your current canbus gateway, or talk to this guy in adelaide (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f164/can-gateway-upgrades-battery-drain-fix-after-rns-rcd-units-install-75217.html).

Hmm, double. The infotainment bus on many VWs does present boost at half the correct value (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f78/auto-polar-fis-advanced-complete-guide-80439-post971604.html#post971604)... I've never heard of double. But at any rate, you can get the accurate values from VCDS.

I forgot to mention I am happy to pay cash money/beers/anything for your services and to help with the cost of the cable.

Sydney is pretty big mate, have a read through the thread and PM a couple of folk near by. The original idea of the thread was to create a list of users, that the masses could contact.

Since hardly anyone in Perth has any VCDS, I might have to fork out some cash to get one of these. Not sure whether i should get the HEX-USB can or just a micro-can.

After looking at the Ross-Tech site it looks like you need the HEX+CAN cable. Which to be fair is a better cable in a lot of respects. There's nothing it won't work on.

I thought the Polo needed the HexCan. It would be worth checking the Ross Tech site though. The HexCan will work on most of the VAG cars including the Bugatti if you have one. The MicroCan is limited on the cars it can work on. I had to sell my microcan and buy a HexCan as my wif has a Touareg.

Hi friends,

Iīm Sebastian Murillo, a traveller from Chile. I recently bougth a VW GOLF of 2002, with 143.000 km. I really love th VW cars, in fact I have a VW Kombi from 1971 in my country, and it is like part of my family... hehehe. Now I have the following problem, so I really apreciate if one of you could help me.

The GOLF has not enough engine power/performance. Its difficult to gain speed and when is climbing or reverse in a hill i cant do it with out the hand brake (sorry my mistakes in mechanical words but my native lenguage is spanish, so..). I thought maybe the problem was dirty injectors, but i dont think that now, because i added on fuel a injector cleaner and nothing happens. Also, the exhaust gases indicator is turn on permanently. So maybe is the Lamda sensor, but i really dont know. I think i have to do an VAGCOM test.

So anyone here could helpme with this?. I'm a backpacker traveller, so i really donītn have too much money :/... and when i have to sell it in a few months, i donīt want to sell it with this problem to his next owner. The rest of the car it works amazing, it has a REGO until September.

Thank you very much!

Greetings!

Hi!

I am completely new to this forum, and like most people probably, I got here looking for help with a problem.
As of two days ago my 2011 Golf VI Variant is showing me the yellow engine management / emission control warning light.

I have only recently purchased the car from a dealership here in Sydney and it is still covered under their 3 month after-sales warranty, so I have contacted them and arranged to bring it in for repair next Wednesday. naturally this had to happen just before the long Easter weekend ;)

My problem is that with the warranty period ending in just a few weeks, I would very much like to prevent the dealership from simply resetting/clearing the error codes without rectifying the issue, in case it isn't an urgent problem and would then likely only pop up again as a warning light on the dash, AFTER my warranty period is over.

If I could at least run a VCDS diagnosis beforehand and go to the workshop with the specific fault codes, I would feel a lot safer that the required repairs will indeed have been carried out. Of course I have been holding off on buying a VCDS cable until now that I need it :(

Is there anybody with a Micro-CAN VAGCOM suitable for a 1K Golf in Sydney's Inner West, who would be willing to run a self diagnosis some time over the long weekend for me, in return for a case of brew or some wine?

Many many thanks in advance!

For anyone looking for a GENUINE Ross-tech VAGCOM/VCDS on the cheap side AND don't need the latest updates then check this out from Bryon Bay based tuning software company "Total Car Diagnostics"

VAG-COM VCDS 2015 - OBD2 Diagnostic Cable & Software (for VAG Cars: VW, AUDI, SEAT, SKODA) (http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/shop/car-diagnostic-tools/vag/vagcom-rosstech-vcds)

I bought the above for $67US and can confirm that it does work with my MKIV Bora 4mo. The Ross-tech cable & VCDS software has NOT been barred but is working as it should.

This is a legit cable and legit VCDS version that is LIMITED to only Version 12.2 and cannot be upgraded. If you need VCDS Version 14, you can pay an extra $30US.

Fantastic saving compared to the $500 cost to buy a VCDS cable from Ross-tech direct. Comes with a 1 year money-back guarantee from an Australian based company.

Bloody brilliant.

If it sounds too good to be true and all that...

The Ross Tech cables have a chip with built in serial number that "unlocks" the software to do all the things. The other hack versions of the cable run the older software that doesn't need the chip and even then only offer limited functionality. These sound like a more up to date version of a clone, which to me still sounds dodgy as all hell unless they have some agreement with Ross-Tech. After all, you're paying for the ongoing R&D on the software, not just the piece of physical cable.

I bought the same cable with VCDS 14.10 from total car diagnostics, it works like a charm, but it cost me US$ 97... I don't think it is a genuine Ross-Tech cable, the seller says that as well, but it is top quality and the software is activated (I believe the software is not cracked)
By the way, if anyone one needs a scan in Sydney North Shore, happy to provide that for free... I have zero coding experience though :)

I come from Byron and it is interesting to hear about this mob. I am really interested in buying a VCDS cable and this is tempting. I do have something in the back of my head though going why is it cheap? I would even get the version 14 upgrade but does that then lock me into that version for the rest of my life? Or is there continual updates that you can buy? Very interesting though, and tempting.

The_Hawk
09-09-2015, 02:13 PM
It might work but that doesn't make it legit, yes the Ross-Tech one is expensive, but it's constantly updated and supported by the company.

To be fair normal users don't need a fully featured cable, one of those $100 plug in generic scanners probably do enough to read/reset a code. For those little tweaks you want to do it's probably far more cost effective to bail someone up to do what are one off changes since you're not likely to use it much after that. (but then I suppose we enthusiasts aren't exactly "normal" users :P)

RubAVeeDubDub: I've had a good look at the website and Total Car Diagnostic's actual wording is very carefully crafted! I've also sought advice about this (dubious company claim) on the Ross Tech forum

Ain't nothing "Bloody Brilliant" at all about the Total Car Diagnostic's cables mentioned in this thread - because they are entirely bogus. Sure the associated software for the cable is GENUINE, but Total Car Diagnostics have simply downloaded Ross-Tech's original software(now obsolete) and applied it to fake hardware (which they claim is "third party" if you read the fine-print) for which there is no license.

Fact is that both the ver 12 and ver 14 cables are complete fakes (as suspected by the Hawk). They are both rip-offs of the Genuine version cables and Total Car Diagnostics is on Ross-Tech's "naughty list" for possible further action (I believe).

Entirely up to you (assuming that you don't have any affiliation with Total Car Diagnostics), but those purchasing these cables simply condone the theft of Uwe Ross's Intellectual Property (and don't be fooled by the notion that the buyer is somehow removed from the act of thieving because he/she are just the buyer).

I bought the same cable with VCDS 14.10 from total car diagnostics, it works like a charm, but it cost me US$ 97... I don't think it is a genuine Ross-Tech cable, the seller says that as well, but it is top quality and the software is activated (I believe the software is not cracked)

Vexed: I'm not repentant in saying that I have never understood the morality of buyer's who simply ignore IP theft by prostituting their values for the sake of saving a few bucks - makes me so angry when a relatively small company like Ross Tech has built-up such a good product and a reputation for quality over many years, only to have poachers like Total Car Diagnostics trash Uwe Ross's efforts !!

The despicable actions of companies like Total Car Diagnostics only succeed because there are buyers who are willing to participate in the malfeasants!

Here endeth the tirade - but it needed to be said (I think)!

Don
PS: I'm more than happy to debate the merits of buying these (fake) cables with forum colleagues who have knowingly made the dubious decision to purchase them - but let's do it here in public and not by PM (as some have done in the past)

Looking for someone in Melbourne who might be able to assist me with coding as i have just retro fitted a RNS510 unit and would like to get my RVC working again along with the MFD functionality etc.

Cheers
