Hi all,

So once we move to Qld, I think that I will be needing a daily driver.

I always liked Ibiza GTI's and they are coming into my price range.

What are they like to live with? Any common issues? Ive heard the electric windows like to die like any VAG car getting to that age. I like the 2E as my first mk1 had one, I have a few plans in mind for it to give it some more tourqe.

How do they handle and stop? Are they good on the Hwy? (Gold Coast to Brisbane and back each day :frown:)

Cheers

I am doing 500ks a week in mine. Definitely a good daily, would be excellent for the highway and good consumption as well. I get up to 9/100 round town but down as low as 6/100 out of town.

I reckon on open roads it would do 600ks on a tank easy.

I love em. Its the best SEAT IMO. 8v 2L, Air Con, Power Steer and Recaros. Thats it, and all you need. And it drives like a proper hot hatch. Rev the arse off it every day and it likes it :) And rewards you with great fuel economy.

i've driven (albeit briefly) the 8v gti and the cupra back to back and honestly, i'd take the 8v for a daily every time. :)

Ive had my Ibiza for some 7 years now and the most expensive replacement part has been the clutch . Solid performer , lacks vr6 grunt but is torquey down low .

Do they run the same 2L 8V as the MK3 GL does? I drove one back to back to my 2L 8V a while ago and they felt so different! Was a great car though, love the seats and shape of them :D

2E engine is same as the early Mk3 Golf.
The car is just much lighter and not as bulky as the Mk3, so goes faster and handles better.
I reckon the seats are heaps better too.

Lorenz that beezer in question is wierd like the timing is advanced, drive gavs and it's not a million miles from your car. Also agree about the 8v in these as the 16v is lacking except top end.

Yeah, I like the idea of a 16v but in a Mk1, not a beeza.

8v all the way for daily drivers, spent a bit of time on the TSR website today looking at bits and peices. Also the Autotech website. :brutal:

Come on Gold Coast, give me a reason!

enough of the 8v luv in already!!!!!!!!!!! :nana:

I must admit that when I was shopping for my beezer in late 98 early 99 I drove a couple of gti, some had 'various mods' done by the owners. Most seemed the same & went hard but one white one in Penrith went really well, I made an offer on this one but the deal fell through, any way I'm glad it did as I ended up buying my cupra new.

I do prefer the smother looks of the latter models & as a daily the 16v is great.

Either way go the beezer, they're a great little car & just that bit different.
