Personally I can't stand any type of multi fit rim, nor any type of chrome rim unless it's the lip of a BBS or Simmons.

But I like your thinking down the light weight vein.;)

Make it right and go with BBS rims :)

Those second rims are what I like to call Dinner Plate Rims. You see them everywhere and on any type of car. Be original and go with something unique.

Yeah but those rims suit are cars, you can say that they were made for them. But the other ones you see on all types of cars and are just plain cheezy in my view.

I rekon most guys on here love the clean and traditional lines of the MK3 and thus like the traditional look, but in the end the car is yours and you have to like it. I say BBS style! :P So your first pic is nice :)
But alternatively DEEP DISH rims will look awesome and keep the car nice and PHAT, but not those dinner plates haha

Yeap if not those then the BBS Rims. Go for the Mk4 r32 look those rims look hot and suit the car nicely, and I also think that they will suit are cars as well.

I'm also a lover of the traditional/Euro style - can't go past BBS! Just make sure you don't go too crazy on the dimensions of the wheel.

Just remember as well that the bigger you go in the size of the rim there is more power loss. It isn't much but its a small amount.

I think that 17" have about 5% power loss not sure can anyone back this up?

who cares about power loss if the car looks hot!:D

Go 16's haha

Best of both worlds (and a comfortable ride)

on power loss, i think ur onto something..
i had 16s before 17s, i dont know if its due better rubber or not, but it doesnt do wheelies on the lights like it used to with 16s
definitely better grip with the new ones tho

The bigger the diameter the longer it has to take to and the more power it needs to complete that revolution in the same time as if it was a 16" tyre. So the tyre takes longer to move and thats where the power loss comes from only slightly though.

I guess there are a few factors when choosing rims weight, ride comfortability and the right rim. 17" do look nice but only if you have the right ones for the car to suit it.:D I also wouldn't think that weight would be much of a factor when choosing the rim.

thanks for the feedback; As expected and my prefered response was to go with the super Light 17z.

I need at least 17z to clear ma breaks so I have no option really, as much as I would have liked 16z . . .

I've been looking at quite a few BBS rims and like all of you I absolutley love their style but they dont make any "light weight" rims (to my knowledge). These Motegi RO_JA rims are 17x8 and weigh in at only 6.3kg! Plus i'm getting a deal on'em . . .

out of those 2 i would go with something like the dinner plate ones (2)
but if you are already setup with 5 x 100 the best thing is to go for a VAG wheel that would suit you r car
there is a large selection floating about at bargin prices & they will look good in 5-10 years, not like th ones you are thinking about which will go out of style fast
not to mention the quality difference

A deep dish look in the current vr6 rims that you have in a 17" would look the treat and very nice I think.

The bigger the diameter the longer it has to take to and the more power it needs to complete that revolution in the same time as if it was a 16" tyre. So the tyre takes longer to move and thats where the power loss comes from only slightly though.

If you choose the right tyres, the diameter will remain very similar. I went up two inches and my effective gearing has changed less than 1%.

If a car no longer pops wheelies, it's probably because the new wheels are heavier and the new tyres are stickier.

Visit here for a tyre size comparison calculator (http://www.bmwcsregistry.org/Technical/e9_tire_alternatives.htm)

That's pretty damn massive in a Mk3! And yeah, they would look good framed on a wall or somethin' :D

Very nice Alex, when you get your wheels bring'em over and we'll fit them at mine.

Loon, know what i mean, they'll be due for a down right good testing and i'd be glad to test'em for you Alex lol! Iknow just the right place. And there shouldn't be blue disc situation this time round.

Tread is what makes the car stick to the ground make sure you get something good... Perhaps continentals or Michelins?
