To quote NOFX (One of the greatest punk bands ever)

"it's not the right time to be sober
now the idiots have taken over
spreading like a social cancer, is there an answer?
MENSA membership exceeding
tell me why and how are all the stupid people breeding
Watson it's really elementary
the industrial revolution
has flipped the bitch on evolution
the benevolent and wise are being quieted, ostracized, what a bummer
the world keeps getting dumber
insensitivity is standard and faith is being fancied over reason
Darwin's rollin over in his coffin
the fittest are surviving much less often
now everything seems to be reversing, and it's worsening
someone flopped a steamer in the gene pool
now angry mob mentality's no longer the exception, it's the rule
and im startin to feel a lot like charlton heston
stranded on a primate planet
apes and orangutans that ran it to the ground
with generals and the armies that obeyed them
followers following fables
philosophies that enable them to rule without regard
There's no point for democracy when ignorance is celebrated
Political scientists get the same one vote as some Arkansas inbred
Majority rule, don't work in mental institutions
Sometimes the smallest softest voice carries the grand biggest solutions
what are we left with?
A Nation of god-fearing pregnant nationalists
who feel it's their duty to populate the homeland
pass on traditions
how-to-get-ahead religions
and prosperity the asymbolic culture
the idiots are taking over"

From the song "The idiots are taking over".

according to statistics we as a race are supposed to be getting smarter. either that or our tests originally to prove that fact are flawed.

gareth_oau
28-04-2009, 10:51 AM
the theory of evolution is all about survival of the fittest, the smartest etc.

unfortunately, we have become way too smart for our own good that altruism has taken over, and now we go out of our way to look after the idiots - and consequently, we are no longer letting them ween themselves out of our society, in-fact they are breeding like rabbits - hence the human race is starting to get dumber again.

Its probably a cyclical thing and eventually there will be too many idiots around and theyll start to kill themselves off, survival of the fittest once again, and we'll start to progress once more!!

Nope ...that won't happen...they went and created the Workplace Health and Safety Act to protect them. Before we had WH & S these fools were thinned out by accidents and events that normally thin out a herd ...so they are now protected and procreate and in turn their progeny (who wouldn't have been around before ) now create more and more.

But agree whole heartedly, learn to hill start, reverse park and generally drive a friggen a car. We'd all be safer for it.

I wonder why high-end bike shops bother importing useless single-purpose roadies anymore, as I've found the ultimate solution.

It's everything you want in a bike: smooth, fast, vulnerable to crosswinds and covered in American eagle stickers.

That is a shocker! The screwed on rear 'disc' is especially funny. One thing that intrigues me though, I've been cycling/racing for 20 years and I've never seen a seatpost like that! I'd like to know what it is. It looks like it has a rubber block between the two metal posts to act a bit like suspension (which the bike already has haha).

Put it this way. The bike is like having F1 class wheels on a Hummer. Do you go off road or is it used for track time ???? It would be way too heavy and redundant suspension for track. Good luck doing downhill biking with slicks.

I can't figure it out either. The two alu connecting bars would prevent it from moving up and down much at all, while the rubber would presumably provide some restriction to fore and aft movement, but why would you want your seat to move fore and aft ? Unless it is a rigid piece of black plastic (not rubber) which stops all movement, in which case it is purely a styling gimmick. Who knows ?

It looks like a version (knock off) of a Crane Creek Thudbuster. I can vouch for the post working on hard tail touring bicycles. I've clocked up over 20K kms on a Bike Friday NWT with a Thudbuster and a Brooks saddle...

So it works OK in practice then ? Looking at the geometry it would be mainly moving backwards until the two parallel arms rotate backwards far enough to also be moving vertically as well (they can only move in an arc, right ?). I would have thought it would feel weird having the seat go backwards and forwards all the time.

I made the mother of all stuffups similar to the above. Someone at work had just found out that they got the lowest pay rise the morning after my wife and I were talking about how its never worth comparing or telling that stuff at work as it always causes rifts (hence why pays are confidential!) Next morning she and a co worker did it and it went badly. So in an email to my wife I said how the other worker was pissed and had just found out that she got the crappest pay rise out of all of us and lucky she never found out mine as it was a lot higher.....5min later I got a reply email from that same worker, saying how all that was very interesting...somehow my stupid brain had sent it to the person in question and not my wife....I have never stuffed up an email like that...and of all the ones to do it with. I never send any gossipy emails either, I just had to send it to my wife, as it was exactly what we talked about.

Anyway awkward doesn't come close to how that day was after that, we work in a very small office......I have to go to the US with her next month as well, just the two of us.....gonna be a long flight!

It's happened a few times at my work, the accountant used to send me confidential stuff all the time when i first started, usually about me as he wasn't used to there being two people with the same name, and kept meaning to send it to my boss. You can't recall emails once the person has opened it either!

I wouldn't like to try to hold that "cat" ! (unless it was someone's pet, then they are OK to hold) But then again I remember as a kid taking on a bet I couldn't catch a feral kitten - afterwards I really wished I had lost that bet. It was surprising just how much damage such a small animal could inflict in a really short time :(

I read a similar experience where someone in the UK thought a fox was a lost dog - and they even managed to get hold of it and put a collar on it ( I don't think it was a put-up job either).

Maybe english foxes are tamer than Oz ones (or is that because in Oz we treat them as vermin, but in UK they actually are part of the environment so are more tolerated ? )

My bro' lives in China and has a carbon roadie with two of those wheels like on the front, 'spinnergy' or something, reckons being white and riding that makes him stick out like nothing else (has a second dodgy old bike for non training purposes).

He's a brave man then. There's be numerous reports of them failing at the rim / "spoke" junction, and some horrendous injuries as a result of the wheels collapsing. I've actually raced Spinergies "back in the day" and they are very unstable from both the wind, and just the sheer flex in them. Very aero and quick though! They were pulled from the market as the number of accidents and resulting litigation killed the product. Tell him not to ride too fast on them for there is report of them resonating at speed and simply "blowing up". Wasn't aware of that the day I took them down the Cooroy range at 95k. Yikes!

Some nice failures...check the frame in the last pic:eek:

Interesting that Victoria police are doing it because the speed cameras are operated by an independant company, hence why they operate under civil law.

Unless that corrupt pr**ck Brumby that runs this state passed new legislation without any of us knowing, the reason that police must pull you over when a speeding offence occurs is that they are not allowed to operate portable speed camera devices i.e: stuck an wheelie bins, mounted to cars etc, hence why they use the radar and new laser operated systems....... Though when it comes to Victoria police and the Victorian justice system, they are both useless and corrupt......

Funny how they also like to drive unroadworthy vehicles, according to the laws they are meant to enforce.....
