Paying for it. j:

In theory, this will be a long termer, so while I'd like to do the usual chip, zorst, wheels and suspension mods, that will probably take time. It is my wife's car after all.

thats sweet as. it'd be one of the first few on the roads here yeh? did you get to keep the car cover??!

Lima

There must be a few on the road now (in theory). We could have collected ours last week if not for colour coding the bumpers. But I'm glad we got that done pre-delivery and waited the extra week.

AFAIK we are the 2nd or 3rd one to be delivered in Canberra.

Hope 'the old girl' is happy!

When are you coming to visit me?

I love it, especially the Color, and the fact it's a 2 door. :)

Then again I could be biased towards 2 door white VW's.....

But the main thing would be it sets it off from the other Golf range and would be a more individual thing for all gti owners.

That's a lovely car. Your mrs must love it (Do you get to drive it at any time ;) ?) Colour coding is definitely the way to go.

Lima

I will get to drive it, but seeing as we've only had it for 3 days neither of us have had too much time behind the wheel as yet. :D

I reckon you should run it in by coming down to Melbourne for the weekend! Be good to meet you. :)
So, how does the German built GTI feel compared to the South African ones that you no doubt drove earlier??
It looks sweet as minigolf! You must be proud! :)

Lima

To be honest our test drive of Mk5s consisted of one pretty tame effort from the local dealer that lasted about 10 minutes. And I had one other drive similarly lame due to unfamiliar roads in Sydney.

But I guess in ownng a Mk4 previously and seeing all the positive press we knew we were always going to be on a good thing. I have to say, while this car is a definite improvement over our old Mk4 GTI, there is still quite a familiar feel about it which is kind of good. We always say we should never have sold our Mk4, but I'm glad we did, because we may never have bought the Mk5.

So, in saying all that I can't really comment on the differences between SAf and German built GTIs. Although ours does have some minor rear alignment issues on the rear hatch that seems pretty common on almost all Mk5s.

We've driven up to Sydney and back already and have about 870kms on the car. I reckon we might do a another 300km or so drive over this coming weekend too. There might be a bit of a road trip to visit my mum in Adelaide around March next year. I'm thinking of visiting her in between the GP and kickoff for the 2007 AFL season.

:)

Cheers Liam

Apart from the painted skirts etc the car is standard. Our plan is to keep it pretty much stock, with maybe some 18s and an APR/Oettinger/whoever ECU reflash. Maybe a zorst and CAI.

Lima

Yeah, some KW V3s would be nice, but the ride in the MINI, is, shall we say, "purposeful", so we're keen to keep the GTI as comfortable as possible. I know it would look sweet lowered with 18s or 19s, but we'll just have to see.

Other results here (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3494725&postid=43455001#43455001) ... another stock Mk5 GTI ran 136.8kW.
