Will be looking to upgrade family car in 2 years time, Mk6 GTI will be out by then. Never liked the Mk5's looks so...

Any idea?

Funnily enough I've just exchanged a few emails within the past half hour or so with my dealer about the mark six golf GTI. Pricing hasn't been established yet but timing has - it's expected in the fourth quarter of this year.

I doubt it'll change much from current prices. There was a general price increase for 2009 models of $200-$700.

I reckon about $5K - $10K less than an equivalently specced Mini...

Oh thats such lies.

IMHO:

Mk5 = Vomit
Mk6 = I want to stroke it all night long, the smooth lines and sexy lights (well, the front anyway). Not to mention the nice interior with quality looking materials... OHHHHHHHH YES. Will look good next to my mk1 too

IMHO having seen the mk6 & pic's of the GTI.

It look's like a half cast

Half Scirocco & half mini Touareg with bit's of the interior from a EOS & Tiguan!

( I hate EOS'! )

Doesn't even know itself what it want's to be.

But it may grow on me yet.

The quality of the plastic's are the same as the mk5. Not flash.

Remember that this car is built a hell of a lot cheaper than a mk5 too, so some thing's have to suffer somewhere.

I don't think any VW model made from now on will have the interior quality of a mk4!

So long as they don't make another Golf that handles like the Mk4 again I think that's a fair compromise, haha. :mowlawn:

To be honest, after owning a MY00 Mk4 GTI for 3 1/2 years, I'm still struggling to see this supposed massive difference in interior quality over our MY07 Mk5 GTI.

Maybe I can't see it for the trip computer, unique GTI leather steering wheel, dual zone climate control, proper metal inserts instead of cheap looking timber and anthracite colour headliner.

Perhaps I might also be side tracked a bit by the superior engine, better handling and fun factor as well.

I reckon the Mk5 was a huge step forward and sales figures would tend to agree. If the only thing people can nitpick over the Mk5 compared to the previous model is the quality of interior materials then Volkswagen have done a fantastic job I reckon.

I suspect the Mk6 will be another step forward too, even if it may largely be in engine tech and options such as adaptive chassis control etc, rather than intrinsic hardware.
