G'day folks,
long time lingerer first (almost) time poster ;)
For anyone that has done an upgrade on their exhaust did you keep the original or just let it go to exhaust heaven? (or evolve into a new toaster - for the darwinists...lol)
Seems a shame to dispose of a perfectly good exhaust just because you upgrade to a better one  ... seriously considering the APR RSC exhaust just to round out the mods
..or can you get anything trading in or selling the original?
cheers

I'm going the APR too, and I've got no room for the old exhaust - so it's going in the bin...

Leave it at the place you're getting the exhaust fitted and put it up on ebay for a fair amount, you'll find you should be able to sell it easily enough. Or even leave it there for them to sell on consignment.

good idea - I'm sure for a small commission they won't have any issue with that. I expect the OEM exhaust is probably worth about the same as the APR and IMO it's a pretty good stock exhaust.....just can't keep up with the HUGE power the flash produces...lol
I wonder if anyone has ever gone back to OEM ? perhaps when selling ?

Actually that's not a bad idea ya know. I'm sure they repair the occasional Golf, so it'll only be a matter of time until an exhaust is required... The Mk5's are getting old enough that new exhausts will be required soon...

Negotiate a fair commission and also tell them you may sell it and have the person go to them to pick it up or get it fitted (and still pay them a commission as well). I did this years back with an exhaust and the shop sold it soon after (was only a week old from another muffler place). The only thing was they forgot to tell me and I was back there to get something done and asked them and they gave me the money.
If I had a choice of a new after market(standard) exhaust for $1500 or a 2000km genuine factory exhaust for $900 I know what I would take (figures for comparison purposes only).
And if you see someone on the forums looking for one you can point them in the right direction.

I've got my original exhaust at my mechanics place still, been meaning to pick it up. Worth keeping IMO as i plan to put it back to stock then sell the after market one which will easily get snapped up for more money than you could ever sell a stock one for.

not with the way metal scrap prices have gone. you will have to pay them to take it away

I like the idea of switching back to sell - agree that reputable aftermarket parts are easier to sell
does anyone know how much the stock exhaust is new?
...btw APR says the TBE RSC exhaust adds about 10-12kw with a retune.

Its around a $1-$1.50 a kilo for scrap of that quality, you could get your slab of VB easily enough
