As a note there's an MEA SQ car audio comp on sunday 22nd of feb... so please don't make it that weekend :P
BTW you guys are welcome to come down and check it out if you like, dont want to hijack the thread so pm me for info :)

Yea I'm cool for a run, I have a second set of wheels now, so I'm ready for the next time hahaha :duh:

For new people, please come along, you actually have a really good time on cruises. If you want to go passenger, just post up you need a driver and plenty of people will offer.

Not sure if the road back exists or if it is sealed... but an idea.

Wasn't there a good cruise up around Mt Macedon on the MkV forum? We could do a truncated version.

How long (in hours, not distance) do these cruises generally go for? Are there frequent stops or do you guys sort out a route and just hit it?

I ask because I'm still having issues getting my seat comfy and if I'm sitting in it for too long, I'm not having much fun. :frown:

hey guys it would be great to come on a cruise, seen as though i've never been on one with you guys before, only got to see a few of your cars at DOVW last year. It would be good to put some names to faces.

Generally about 8 hours for a cruise... But the road only takes 4.5 hours with the route I've got there. So if you want to drive full stick for 4.5hrs that's all it will take.

Generally we stop lots... talk crap, eat, buy massive hats, look at cars.... examine rock-rash lol. It's a pretty fun day, I always enjoy them. Also as Jarred said, we wait up for people. Not everyone's car is the same, so people can only do what they are comfortable with and mechanically capable of, we all know that.

we will have to see how we go with this one due to the bushfires at the moment. A lot of areas will be burnt out. Im assuming it would be best to stay away from severely affected areas

Well we'll see how it goes but they should start to go out by the end of Feb. Once its burnt, its burnt I suppose and shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

I have to agree with Timmy, The clean up is going to be a long a slow process up there and i think the last thing they want is heaps of cars travelling through. Also the roads will be really bad up there, they will still be covered in ash and tree's etc, not to mention there saying some of the fires still buring at the moment could take up to a week just to put them out.

Tim
10-02-2009, 05:37 PM
Its very difficult as the fires are in every direction except over in the west. I think we can only wait and see how things pan out. The feb cruise may need to be postponed even.

I think the feb cruise should keep going but maybe we should organize some fund raising scheme to help out with the fires. It would be my first time to participate in a cruise and it would be good if we can put it to a good cause. Lets brain storm some ideas and see what we can do to help out.

FWIW, The guys over at GOLFMKV started a donations thread to enable members to pledge to the Bushfire Relief Fund. The current tally is $7,120.00.

I'm not suggesting that this money would not have been given anyway, but it just implemented a sense of "community" on the part of the forum members.

Maybe VWW members might care to do the same.

Also, you can register your services as a volunteer through www.govolunteer.com.au.

I definatly still think the cruise needs to go ahead, a charity cruise with a donation from vw watercooled is a great idea too. We could all just make a donation on the day. mabye we could have a photo shoot of all of our cars with a sign in front saying something like " Vw Watercooled 2009 Bushfire Charity cruise"

I think we should make it a more chilled out cruise maybe with less driving time than normally would while stopping somewhere where we can take some photos and another idea is that maybe we can donate anything we can for an auction with the proceeds going to support the fire victims. I think anything from a nice bottle of liquor, any VW memorabilia, or anything car related that we can donate. Another idea is that we can designate one or two people to do take some photos that day and we can put a symbolic fee to get them, again with the proceeds going to support the fire victims. That way i think we can enjoy a nice day while doing our bit. And for us being the best and friendliest VW forum out there :nana: we are no less than others who have taken initiative :)

Please post all your ideas and hopefully we can organize something nice *SPREAD THE WORD*

TomBrer

im not tryin to be rude here, my family has already donated a considerable amount of money to the victims, and friends have been effected by this horrible disaster. Maybe we can use this cruise to get away from everything and just go for a cruise, donate money and goods now, not get things complicated on the day of the cruise with pricing and what not.

i suggest a cruise to sorrento along the coastline, we meetup at albert park, pay entry fees and then head off along the coasline, well stop off at sorrento at either a pub or whatever

i do this drive all the time, i can lead if need be, in the last 20min of the drive there are a few twisty's too ease the itch

also may i suggest an entry vynil sticker of the ''yellow ribbon" about 25 or so cm high and 15cm wide in the middle of the back window, also if we can score any vynil donations, the company and all volounteers will be getting recognition in the VWMA Magazine as i will be covering this cruise

the official bushfire ribbon in mind
http://www.iafflocal2493.com/yellow-ribbon.gif

also im thinking entry fee of $25 each vehicle

hey dom,

Yeah i'll be cruising up to albert park for the first meet then to sorrento with you all, it just seems a bit silly to go all the way back to the city after that when i only live about 10 min away from sorrento, plus i didn't want to just meet you all in sorrento becasue then i don't get to cruise with you all.
Sounds good with the stickers, hopelfully we can get them, how many do you reckon we would need, becasue if you can't get them i may be able to. I was think we should mabye have a stop of half way or something at mabye frankston or somewhere so that we can all re group, becasue people are bound to get held up at traffic lights etc. Just make it like a 10- 15min stop, what's everyone reckon?
