OK, I've finally remembered how to get into photobucket, and so here are a few pics of my Touareg...

It's an R5 (5 cyl in-line) 2.5l TDI. For a Touareg, it is the real base model - smallest motor (exactly 1/2 of the V10), and minimal options, but it's still plenty nice! Apart from towbar and parking sensors, the only option I got was the externally mounted spare wheel. This is a factory-special order, but I wouldn't have a serious long-distance cruising vehicle (let alone a 4x4) without a full-sized spare, and this is the only way to get one on a t-reg.

My mods have been to add a DP chip for extra GO, and a phatbox. If you haven't come across a phatbox think of a car-mounted ipod, integrated into the car's system (it thinks it's a CD changer but with 5000 songs), and with voice-synthesized reading of song, album, artist, etc instead of having to peer at the tiny ipod screen as you go swerving off the road!
Anyway, here are some photos taken on a couple of off-road days with the boys and girls from clubtouareg...

Nice to see some serious "getting your wheels dirty" action! Usually it's 'Cruisers, 'Rovers and Patrols in these type of shots

It looks like the Touareg stacks up pretty well. (Make sure you wash all of the salt off the bottom ;) )

Thanks for the comments everyone - I'll try to respond to all of you...

joshyd-mk2gti - You're right - it looks different... It is also one serious bit of German engineering. Very solid and fully integrated in the central locking, dash display, etc. Having the spare on the back is 1000% better than the alternative - a space-saver (deflated) with a compressor and a can of goop!
Having an external spare is still fairly rare - and almost all "special order" (4 months wait) from factory. Mine was number 18 in Oz with the spare. Having it also gives me an incredible extra storage space - where the other stuff normally lives under the floor of the boot!

brackie - My last 10 4wds (since 1981) have been 2 x Suzukis, a subaru with lift kit, a Hilux then a LC toopie (company cars on Stradbroke Island), a pajero, a (mazda) ford raider, a Terios for the wife, and 2 x Patrol wagons. The "T" was ALWAYS going to get its wheels dirty. I did my research before buying it, and it stacks up pretty well! And at long last I have a comfy and thoroughlly enjoyable driving experience getting to and from the interesting off-road bits!

melissa - thanks, it's a great spot to visit and photograph!

gtigrl - Now you've got me dreaming again... Fraser was my "local" beach many years ago. I bought cars 1,2, & 3 in the list above for driving there when I lived in SE Qld, and had 4,5, & 6 when I lived on North Straddie! And yes it is a nice looking car

rayray086 - they (we) were! That was a day out the back of Lithgow with the local ClubTouareg boys...

Here are a couple more pix

Welcome to the forum, good looking 4x4. Nice work on getting it dirty and getting the smallest engine. Full sized spare is a good idea :)

In the group shot they look like overgrown golfs. :D They do look massive in the flesh though.

I actually saw two yesterday at Campbelltown on trade plates racing each other throught Traffic. They were hauling too :)

Nice to have you onboard, we are truly becoming a diverse online community :)

i bow to people that buy 4x4s and actually using it for what it is made for, not an overpriced shopping trolley and a school bus.
congratulations on a new car

Hey mate nice car:) I love white cars and this just re-iterates why. It's also good to see something other than a small hatch/sedan in our pic section.

always loved 4x4's so these pics are awesome. read in a few of the off road magazines that these can hold their own offroad too. most owners won't go there tho  great to see some VW offroading.
