View Full Version : Hello from Germany (VW T4 Multivan VR6 with LPG)

Hi there!

I was searching about information to the LPG prices in Australia and found this forum. I found the question about the conversion of a 2.5 l T4 and that's why I decided to register to this forum. ;)

As you already might have noticed due to my "special englisch" (and the title of course) -> I am from Germany and my English is not the very best. I am trying to better up my English reading and writing on the internet.

So, that's why I am here - and now what VW watercooled I can call my own:

It's a Multivan "Allstar" from '96 with the 103 kW VR6 engine:

A few facts to my person: I am living in the south of Germany, I am 33 years old and own my green T4 VR6 for nearly six years now.

Previous VW watercooled that I drove with:

My father's '79 Passat - just a few years old. Yes, it's me in front of the car - not knowing that I will take my first driving lessions behind it's wheel. Of course a "few" years later. :D

After passing the test for the drivers licence, I drove a Golf (Rabbit) from '82 that belonged to my brother and got four weeks later my very own '87 Polo:

Here we go: 2nd posting due to the "maximum pictures"-restriction. :)

I drove the white Polo for a few years and had to sell it due to the fact that it only had a catalythic converter of the first series.

But: After the Polo is before the Polo. :) I bought a brand new Polo in '96, but in the pre-digital-camera-times I took too few pictures of it. So here is one a few weeks after I bought it.

Due to that I played the e-bass in a hard rock/heavy metal band the Polo became too small. Something bigger - a VW of course:

It's an '95 Golf Variant with 1.8 l Engine (55 kW) . The best VW I ever owned: No oil consumption, no rust, no nothing at all. The only problems I had were made by other people: Standing in a parking lot somebody slammed the door of his car into my Golf, the female driver of a Toyota choked her engine on a ramp - and the Toyota drove down, directly into the front of my Golf.

I sold it in 2003 with about 115.000 km and a brand new bumper on the front. :D I am still missing it a little bit, it was so understatement-like. No controlls by the police, no problems on the german autobahn, etc. :)

But - of course - I love my T4. :)

Grusse Martin, welcome to the Forum. I think I have seen your T4 on the internet somewhere?? It's very nice.

I used to have a Friesan Grun T4 Transporter until late last year.

I hope you have an enjoyable stay here.

I remember your green one with the "(D)"-sign at the back of it. ;)

With LPG they're several systems in australia, the most common is Impco and otherwise Vialle. Vialle being one of the more common used from factory fitted vehicles.

Otherwise GRA (Gas Research Austraia) who make custom kits and performance kits for older and newer cars including turbo'd and supercharged cars too

Thanks to all for the warm welcome... Despite the fact that it might be a little bit too warm in australia if I followed the news correctly?

I can not tell if there has been any loss. I use it on LPG and gasoline the same way, I can not tell it apart. But: 2 tons, 103 kW - I think I would not notice if there are 10 kW more or less. :)

I think turbo and LPG works very well along - if the vents can stand the heat. I know that there are a lot of turbo engines from Korea or Japan that do not like to be run with LPG and more than 70% of rpm for a longer period... At least those korean and japanese cars that are sold here. Not all parts will be the same due to the fact that some "japanese cars" are built in Czech... :D

Just a little update...

The VR6 is still running on LPG... But it's getting winter here in germany. To prevent (more) rust on the T4 I had to find something else for the wintertime when snow and salt turn to an aggressive mixture...
