Hi all,

Need new front shocks for a 1980 mk1 diesel. Car is standard but has air conditioning & sump guard, so has a little more weight over the front wheels.

Have priced monroe gas at $210/pair...any other suggestions & experiences?

Cheers!

Just about everybody will say, "Go for Bilstein". I'd have to agree...If you can afford them. I drive my diesel like she is a racing car. You have to, as the lack of speed has to be compensated for by the excellent handling and roadholding that Mk1s have. Good shocks are essential. Here in Tassie with the winding roads and hairpin bends I can leave most other cars for dead overall as she handles so well even with stock-standard suspension and wheels. I've even had blokes come up to me when stopped and say, "Can't believe it's a diesel!"

yeah, i got monroe gas shocks on the front, with lowered sports springs (not that youll want the springs) but yeah, there a good shock, i like them.
