just starting a thread now its a little late in the game but i kept photos from start to finish,
mk1 2dr shell i got for 200
it came with not much and a rusty window and sill a little ding in the rear.
otherwise great.
I planed for a full respray and a 16v conversion but i needed an engagement ring more than a car so i sold the engine on and waited till i had the money to look for something else.
along it came a nice looking green mk1 with sc14 supercharger on it, i know it has been on here before and it was advertised here.
I bought it late last year and got stuck right into it,
the people you meet along the way makes it all the more fun and interesting like the hard working chapy i bought it from who worked at begga cheese
his work mates were on the same plane as me and i got a lift to their workplace where i sat in reception for half hour till we went to check out the car. one test drive later and a few cobwebs blown off i was heading on a trip 5h north to sydney... ye haa i now met a ton of friends on the road.... all cops haha why are you driving with no number plates ??? it was like they had never heard of a moving rego oh gosh. the 2 guys i bought the rolling shell of nearly 1.5 years ago ended up buying the 16v so it was great to see them again too!!
also the 2 tow truck men who carted off the old 4dr green shell were italian and the italains are into things like ferraris so they were very interested actauly couldnt believe what they were looking at in the garage when i showed them the vw golf..... oh no poms italians aussies are their enough golfs around for when the asians and greeks catch on lol ok here is some photos....

Nice thread mate. So you are raping the green machine of its booty for the 2 door? Is this correct?

What are you doing with the 5 door shell? Where are you based?

Keep up the progress.

THanks everyone:-)
i had an interesting time converting mk1 wiring to cabriolet instrument cluster.
but it was good nutting this one out and the sense of momentum continued as i started getting into the door cards ect electrical bits as well.
I decided to go with a pin stripe material.
(Race car meets a kind of classy classic look)
with a retro twist in the badgeing
THe LEDs i installed with a jaycar kit that lets you fade the lights out after 20 seconds or whatever you set it to.
the engine bay lights are turned on seperatly to the interior lights or park lights, this idea was inspired by wanting to be able to work in the engine bay and not have to drape a lead light around in their haha
they were very chaep as well and came in strips of 3 waterproofed ,30 in strips of 3 for 20 bucks which is terrible cheap for that kind of thing.
i have to have an new inner tie rd ball joint in to complete the mechanicle task and just finish of a few electrical things,
i am getting a saas steering wheel on wed with the boss kit :-0 yipee
its great seeing something new go on almost every day at the moment and sitting in the front seats you can imagine your in a solarium which....
could make your car the ultimate chick magnet!!! lol

Thanks,
suspension is spax gas shockers with adjustable dampning for a firm as ride
works well,
yea the old yellow girl had the guts taken out of her and a cabi 1.8 was put in and i sold it to a friend and then she sold it to someone in sydney who flew up to get it. it still had the seat dash and mk3 seats in it very comfy and a great body, i should have kept the steering wheel tho i am buying a saas wheel on tue tho!
as for wheels i would love something that says old school and classy,
money at the moment keeps me in the mk3 rims till the tread wears out and then?? i did all the checks the mobile roadworthy guy does and found i need an new inner tie rod ball joint (unlucky) otherwise it has all gone well so far.
stu had a mk1 LS door latch that saved my but, so thanx STU!!!
I am hopeing to get it registered and on the road this week.
i want to finish up with a old school classy retro tweak
