i got it hooked up profesionally but it still does it and the guy dosent know why.... im thinking it is because i dont have a high powerd altinator? my volts meter shows my car is over 12v in charge but its still cuts out.....

Have you got other amps etc?
Alternator should be OK.

I used to install audio and stuff so i have a few questions for you:
When does it cut out?
Does it only cut out when you have lots of bass or is it totally random?
How old are your speakers?
Do you crank it lots?
Do you have any amps?
Is it worse at night with the headlights on, or when you have your heater fan blowing?

wouldnt be the alternator. sounds like a wiring prob somewhere.
is it turning right off or is the sound just cutting in and out? when does it do it (when you go around corners, braking, or totally random)??

1. it cuts out whenever it wants ... today wasnt a problem
2. my speakers are brand new
3. i dont crank it at all
4. one underneath my seat
5. its random the lights dont make a diffrence but when the radiator fan goes on it sometimes shuts down
its a 55watt head unit i think but i know 100% theres a 55 in there
could it be the amp
also when i put the radio on all 4 speakers work.. then when i put it on CD only the fronts work, whats with that?
thank you for your answers

Need to put a voltmeter at the HU.
What model Golf? What type of fuses?
Where did he pick up the power +?
Where did he earth it?

when you put your cd on is it the amp'd speakers that cut out or the ones that are still powered from your headunit?
Does the display on the headunit dim when there is bass? Kenwood units typically need a good power feed to work correctly.
55 watts is a WLS (when lightning strikes) rating, if its a current unit (kdc-mp4033, 5033 etc) its actually about 18WRMS.

the amp is cutting out because the trigger has been wired to the antenna trigger not the amp trigger, which is an easy fix.
are you getting any engine noise?

nah engine is working fine
i also had a custom headunit in this before my one with the same setup and wiring to the amp and it had no problem

Does it cut out when you use only the cd player with the rear speakers not on?

run a bit of fused 12ga wire from the battery straight to the headunit and ground it straight to the chassis, that "should" fix it otherwise it could just be a faulty headunit.

Hmm I have the same problem in my vr6 its a Pioneer headunit and I'm getting the same scenario as what WABIT is getting I can only crank it to 10 and then the headunit lighting starts to fade in and out like the power is draining, really weird. How much would it cost for someone to look at it.

It cuts out when I crank it passed 10 lol and it also dims but nothing else in the car dims at all. I have also checked and the sound system is not stock Pioneer everywhere with tweeters and also the 6" door panels.

thats the same problem that Wabit is having, lack of power. also try turning off the loud function on your cd player for the time being so you can turn it up a little louder.

Check your earth cables.
Alternator to block.
Block to chassis.
Chassis to battery..
One of my golfs blew the Alternator earth cable late one night, you could actually see it glowing. I got home by using a jumper lead between the battery and the alternator.
You might find that your accelerator cable is the only earth to your motor. Sounds odd but it's actually very common.

Nice try, but the speakers are also moving at the speed of sound and it's all relative!
Besides which when has any moving VW ever been quiet?
