Well i'm new to the site, but not new to VW's,so here is my latest car in the making.

Day one of ownership,June 08

First job was to remove the awfull lights, and fit a black rear view mirror.

Then there was a proplem with wet carpets.
Got to my mates and we dropped the headlining and checked the sunroof drainage, everything was in order. We knew the carpet had to come out as it was soaked,so disconected the battery and spotted a gromit in the engine bay.It was for the bonnet release cable,on closer inspection some prat had fed the boost guage through the bulkhead and not sealed it.That's the sorce of my proplem them,we ran the boost guage through the fuse box and put the grommit back into place.

Front seats out,and carpet removed(not as quick as it sounds).

I ran like this for a few weeks while the carpets were drying out and to make sure the leak was fixed.

Did you have any trouble fitting the steelies with the 312mm brakes? What were the brakes off? I ask cos I have the same size but dont know what they came off and they look identical to yours buddy. Also planning to down size to 16" rims but didnt knwo if they would clear the brakes.

Are all E46 wheels high offset? I've always thought BMW wheels were mostly low offset (under ET30).

Patch The Pomme
10-10-2010, 06:04 AM
All but the M3's have workable offsets 38+

I soon realised that the constant banging sound of drive shaft on chassis rail wasn't much fun,a chassis notch cured that problem so i lowered it even further.

I run a 215/40 up front(205/40 next time) and a 225/40 at the rear.

Got bored of the anni skirts so laid my hands on some R32 skirts, got them sprayed and fitted them at home.We fitted them a little higher than they come from the factory, this resulted in the bottom of the skirts flaring out and looks pretty damm cool:P

The pics get about don't they!
Pats car is stunning even more so now that i've polished it up for him,we're good friends with the guys from down London the one with the X5 wheels and Dele's amazing R32 etc................

Your bang on the money with my air,it is indeed Airlift's XL kit,i run manual valves and Viair gauges to keep an eye on each corner. The ride on the XL's is awesome, firm and sporty but without that harsh crashiness that you get when running low on coilovers and can lift up if the road conditions are a bit sketchy,i love it.As yet the wheels haven't even been tried on the car, hope i got my maths correct!

The wheels are 5X120 so using my current adaptors, but to get the rears to sit how i want them it required loosing 3mm off the offset.I had planned to have 3mm machined of the back of the rear wheels, but due to the spoke design it wasn't possible,a solution had to be found fast. The idea came up about taking 3mm off the adaptor face but this would leave the bolts that hold them to the hub sitting proud 3mm(they can't be chopped down, for head strength),so it was decided that we should make little pockets in the back of the wheels to accommodate the bolts.

These are 8.5JX19(215/35/19) up front and 9.5J(225/35/19)at the back, both are ET35 but after adaptors they come in at ET19 up front and ET22 at the back, should sit very well once aired out.

After viewing the wheels in sunlight i wasn't so keen on the colour, they almost look chrome and cheap.......................this couldn't be left alone.

I chose a light grey base coat,a white pearl over the top and a satin lacquer, came out perfect in my eyes. They change colour depending on how the light hits them, from various shades of grey to almost ice white when the sun hits them.
