Hey pplz. Just got my 76 2 door (3door).....((ex Golfkart's car))
in this thread i will go through basicly everything i do to it.
It's going to be a budget build up with daily driving in mind so to start with mostly tarting up the outside :D .... then as time goes by ill move to interior and motor........so ill begin with things ordered so far.

being a budget build up ive gone the lowered Kingsprings and monroe h/d shocks..

..Repco trades account comes in handy .... some adjustabe coilovers would be nice....but i want to go new where i can, and they aint cheap!!!

the project begins this long weekend.......just got a tonne of new bits for my GTi-R too, so the time will have to be shared, lol.
ill get some pics up asap.

MK2 will now get stripped ready for a nice new paint job, general tidy up and well deserved rest.

25-11-2006, 08:55 PM
having second thourghts about the "budget" option . . . .
im thinking it may take over from my GTiR pulsar.
sale of that will cash me up around 17g. so im actually thinking about giving it a little more attention than first planned...unsure yet.
might be the johnny walker blue label talking tho, haha.:D

got a lot of ideas at the moment, but those ideas dont match my bank balance :D .

possibly a 16valver, either to be droped in the mk2, then the 2E into the mk1..
or just drop the 16v into the mk1.
**also looking for a deeper chin spoiler if anyone has one laying around:D

Hey Benny, I can help you out with the front GTI spoiler. I think the one on the cabrio has survived. Will be in touch. Also, Brackie and I will sort out a date for the northern drive very shortly. Keep an eye on the events section.
The old MK1 is going to be great mate. Check that floor please.
Cheers and a good 2007 to you, Andrew:)

Thanks for the update!

You are to be commended on your work thus far - awesome to see yet another Tassie MKI project.

I am pleased this Golf has gone to someone who has the time, skillz and motivation to see this project thru.

...now can someone tell me why I sold this car!?!?! :?

mate its looking a treat.

What kinda suspension are you using for the back?

86gti
18-02-2007, 12:40 PM
hehe, thanks fellas!
suspension (at the moment*) is Monroe inserts in the front, and some cofaps in the back, lowered king springs all round.
thats basicly so i can start using it...i recon i will go some coil overs once i get the mk2 all sorted out...also talks in progress for a 16v on twin carbs.
....but, baby steps at the moment, lol.

Hope you make it to the cruise mate.

86gti
26-02-2007, 07:41 PM
thanks fellas!! the motor n carbie is stocko.
the problem is the fuel pump . I managed to get dad under the bonnet today while i was at work....
im 120% shure ill be at the cruise..in the MK2 :D :D .
found a windscreen in stock in launceston. its going in on fri to get that fitted..then put in my std tail lights and it should be looking good for the transport inspection and all go for the tamar cruise. :)

hey mate, your doing a great job... just a few words of experience.

im not sure which monroes you have, but i've had experience with monroe GT-gas shocks and king springs same as you.

i found the monroes to be finw with stockie springs but once the heavier higher rate kings were in, the ride becomes very bouncy and you could lose some grip on a less that smooth surface. might be ok for the rear but i would look at swapping in something harder for the front inserts, maybe BOGE or SACHs super tourer.

keep goin mate! HAHAHAHAHAHA to the mk2 with steelies!

17's might be a touch big;)
4x4 indeed...
Wouldn't do much for acceleration either...

haha! :D u recon the 13s should stay on Wabbit j: .
the mk1 is all go now, new pump, new points, new plugs etc....think i might invest in a new steering wheel tho ...the std one feels like im driving a bus........
mk2 goes in for the pit inspection tomorrow, hopefully it will be fine...
but we all know what the transport gistapo are like... Mk2 copped a new windscreen and the std tail lights have gone back in too, hopefully the tinted ones go back in tomorow night after work, fingers crossed.

ok, My car (helga) WAS forsale... Got stuffed around a bit by a so called mate who owned the car i was going to get...... i could say allot right now but i will breathe deeply and stay calm. I was told i had first offer on the car...and I offerd a deposit..to that i was told, no thats fine.... I had a fella from Sydney book a plane ticket to come look at my golf on tuesday. Ive just had to ring him and tell him the deal is off..( he wasnt happy).
the car in question has now gone to "Knupflogs" brother, to apparently be used as a "work bus" .....
the car was "delux"s old orange mk1 with 15in BBS rims. koni suspension, neuspeed swaybars, 5 speed box with quaife diff, 1.8 with dellorto carb etc.
damage to front end (light) could have had it for 2g...................
now you feel my pain???????......Friends...hmph! wish people could be straight up with others, and not beat around the bush to get their hopes up.

Damn my old RS and toyo TPG's. We had some fun times. Mallala, DECA, GOR not to mention gorgeschleife. Those rears are f***** from carrying two sets of rims in the back to PI. Scrubbage was insane and we still raced people on the freeway going down

anyway  ....back to my car.
options as of now is... another 2door mk1 that has appeared :D
or the orig plan of 16v into the mk2 and the 2E into Helga on twin carbs...
...still alitle work to do on my GTiR to get it ready to sell and then things will start to move.....literaly... :D .....
Antdragonist and I will be going on a trip to check out the other mk1 very soon.

PS....just to clarify, i was not having a kiddy fit...the fact was i was told the orange car was there for me to take...
I said i was posting my mk1 for sale...that was fine, but the fact of the matter is if i had sold Helga on the weekend
i would not have had a MK1 at all....I just like to be told where people stand, and i understand that sometimes doesnt happen.....
but there is other factors i will not enter into on a public forum. . . . . . all said and done.
time to move on. lol

What would we do if it wasn't for our imagination j: Benny, I reckon your original plans for Helga and the Mk2 are a pretty realistic starting point! Move that GTiR on and get cracking :D

Yea i think the 16v plan in the mk2 and the 2e in the mk1 will be how things will go this year. Id love a turbo donk in the mk2 for shure, or even the mk1 for that matter!!!. but my plan is basicly to make the mk1 a bit of a fun track car, just the basics, some good suspension, a bit more go and a huge grin :D .
though it also saddens me using the mk2 as a daily driver again...poor ol' girl needs a rest. Just have to work out in what order the events will take place in my garage....but yess, the gtir has to go, as fun as it is and its bang per buck scale is very high. but imagine that money spent on the mk2 .....
argh, i give myself headaches j:
