Well it's official - after a heated discussion on monday night my wife has taken my Golf. Oh yes, this is not a joke. She has taken the key and put it on her keyring with a piece of pink ribbon so there is no confusion.

I used to own a MK4 GTI and my wife had a BMW 3 series, but she really liked the Golf so we sold the BMW, I gave her my MK4 GTI and I went and bought a white 5 door MKV GTI.

We noticed on monday that the MK4 had a small oil leak from a tiny crack in the sump. NRMA said that she must have just grazed something and it's only about $250 to fix. They also said she would have heard it but she has no recollection of running over a scooter rider...

But no that was it. "Im sick of old cars" she says "Im taking your car from now on. You can fix the old one and have it back. Plus the wheel is broken because it keeps going flat"

The 'old one' is a Black 2000 model with the Recaro interior, full ipod connection, full 2.5 exhaust, cobalt boost gauge, air intake, BOV etc

Anyway it's 7am and I just heard her leave in my, ah... her new GTI, and punch it up the street. I'm now thinking that she probably tried to hit something in the MK4 for an instant upgrade :)

Well at least I can get modding again. I decided no mods on the MK5 till warranty was up (2 more years) but I can get stuck back into it for the MK4.

So if you see a young blonde girl with the 'new car grin' in a white 07 GTI, make sure you tell her to give my car back!!

So now it's onto the bus to work, or the Super Motard I picked up on Saturday. Hmm, decisions.....

Maybe she grew up in a big family and was sick of always getting hand-me-downs ? Anyway, you have to admire her taste :) And now it will be up to her to decide about Mk V mods (decisions by previous custodians no longer apply) !

HaHa, you arent on your own there mate,
at least 2 of my customers made the mistake of letting their wives drive their Mk5s to the shops and ended up having to buy them their own!!!
One had a 6 month old Imprezza and the other had a 3 month old Commodore.

when I decided to get the Blue Blurr (R32), missus was not keen.

Now ...15000kms later....she claims "It's MY car".

Oh well...back on the Yamaha :duh:

Haha my girlfriend wants to pinch my car sometimes and was telling me last night how she "revved it to 5,500 rpm" when she's had it.

The MKIV is a better looking bit of gear anyway ;) It'd be nice if it had the new 2l though.

Have you got pics of your Golfs to show us?

My wife hasn't driven the GTI yet (picked it up in May) and judging by this thread I will have to do everything I can to avoid it.

No way I'm driving a 1.6litre auto Corolla around!

Havn't filmed much of the MK4. We'll all be seeing more of it on mightycarmods.com from now on though...

Apparently my Mrs is taking the GTI early next year. Because I drive too far each week and it would be cheaper for me to drive the Mazda 121.
And although she wont admit it, she always has a cheeky grin when behind the wheel of Gunter.

Put me in that basket, she ended up getting a Skoda Octavia RS, but it's close enough. No fights any more - no one gets a dud.

The Jetta is now 2 yrs and 2 months old with 50,000KM on the clock, SWMBO has never been behind the wheel! Downside is I have to drive her everywhere she goes.......oh did I say downside? That's a bonus! LOL

I use aversion therapy on my gf.
Every time she accidently put the wipers on instead of the indicators I laughed. Now she refuses to drive any of my VWs

Wife/GF..."Hey you there, give me the keys!!"
Man grovelling..."Yes dear..."

I just consider myself very lucky my missus doesn't look too closely at the fuel consumption displayed on the MFD. On our previous car I consistently used about 25% more fuel than she did, on the current Octy I think I probably manage to get through about 30-40% more than she does (but I have a great time doing it).

I have to use a lot of accelerator to make sure the engine is run in properly, dear :driver:

Yeah, Right. Just don't get booked for speeding ! (delivered with left eyebrow raised in disbelief)

My wife "gave" me the VE bombadore to drive because she likes driving the smaller car. She winged about me spending money on a chip but now( so I have found out) loves the acceleration. I average 900ks/tank, she 650ks/tank. I miss my car. Boo hoo:frown:

My gf is blonde but a med student. When she drives the TDI I have to yell at her to accelerate hard and go fast through corners.

She wants a toureag though...

My wife has promised to stop parking by Braille and actually watch the process now ... my question is ... is it safe to get my rims on the left side of the car repaired now?

Am i the only one who's GF prefers manual, she had an old ****box 94 laser which i convinced her to sell when she got a job in the city and started using PT, it means that i now get both spaces in the garage, and any time she does need ot take the car (rarely) and i need to go somewhere, i have the SP1 to go on.

That seemed like a great theory til she crashed the golf.

ah well.

Hi Steve,

No you're not the only one.

My wife demands to drive to manual over using the Camry v6. In fact you probably heard her complaining when I said that I would be using the Jetta to go to work from next week at my employers new office in the Docklands.

She does not see reason why it would be cheaper to use the Jetta ave 6.2/100 around town for a return trip of >70km over using our Camry v6 ave 13/100:brutal:

My gf drives a Celica manual, it is a nice gearbox, but you have to thrash it to get any performance out of it...she does not.

She has driven my car on a trip to Melbourne and was shifting at 2.5k to avoid the Turbo...

On the other hand dad just bought a Jetta to keep up with me :driver:

Hmm, two cars, one black, one white. One person cleans both cars otherwise it never gets done (and I mean never!). Which one would you put in the garage?

My wife had a BMW 316. At the time I was driving a MK4 GTI. She said "I really like that car - I'd like a Golf" so she took mine and I bought a Nissan GTiR because I loved SR20's when I was younger (this one)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqXpUzzWtQ8

Then after owning that for a while I thought "I actually don't think there is a better suited car for me than a GTI" so I searched around for a while and eventually got the white MK5 GTI manual. And yes my wife's cars have all been manual (I taught her how to drive manual when she got her L's!!)

Anyway tomorrow is my first official day without it and the MK4 has to go to the mechanic for a sump repair - I went for a drive today with her driving the MK5, and almost crapped myself when she parked 2cm from the curb... I said "Just pretend the gutter is actually hanging out 10 cm more than it is!!"

Well I'll kiss clean unmarked rims away and will have to buy some 18's for it if I ever get it back! Anyway I'm on my Super Motard to work tomorrow. Woo Hoo!!

Hey Steve,

I think I saw your other half in the R32 turning onto the FWY the other day. I shed a tear for you. Fortunately the GTI makes my other half car sick. So I don't have any of those problems :P

does mightymods want to do a segment on my mk1?

my little lady is an auto hater, but is thinking DSG is a compromise she could be willing to make (if we get a Passat, then choice is out the window really).

you should report the theft to the police...

Ha ha my fiancé wanted to steal the GTI and she did but got caught by the police driving a turbo vehicle whilst on her green p's. Hahaha so now she can't touch it yaaaayyy!!!!!!! Although she did drive it quickly after I got the giac tune and didn't like it said it went to fast. So I bought her a polo and my baby is safe in the garage

I don't have to steal the car it is mine, a GT sport 2.0 TDI, much better than a 4WD Pajero, I asked my husband what he would like and this was his reply.

GT sport, 2.0 TDi, 6spd, manual, I hate DSG's no control, no leather or sunroof
at least he likes to driver and not complain, But it is mine.:):driver:
