Just spoke to Nick at Straightline who confirms that they still stock Golf 8v extractors, to suit 1976-1984 Golfs.

I bought a set of them a year or so ago and they were great 4 to 2 to 1 branch manifold in a cool gold colour. And Aussie Made.

$248 + GST + $15 delivery, brand new.

They used to do VR6 ones but didnt sell enough, so now they dont :(

Nothing for Golf 3 either, but Mk1 owners, get in there :)

Hi Matt - thanks for the info.

Reckon that I'd get much gain over a stock GTI 4 into 2 into 1 headers?

I had a 4 into 1 manifold on my 1800 mk1 that had a big valve head fitted to it. I subsequently fitted a 2 litre under the head in pursuit of more power. The taller block meant that the manifold now touched the gear linkage and vibrated horribly.

No choice but to replace the 4-1 with a std cast manifold and modified (lengthened) std down pipe. Big cut in top end power.

The 4-2-1 is good for making mid range the 4-1 makes top end.

thanks for the tip today Matt. Yes, they are still available in 2009 and I paid $330 today and should be about 1 week in production.

What are the runner sizes on these ones?

sweet matt. do the manifold studs usually fall apart when you pull off the 30+ year old stock bolts?

Hi Golf Loon

I've about to drop a MK3 2L in to my MK1 and would like to run a set of extractors, any idea if the extra block height will create clearance problems if I run a set of 4-2-1 extractors in a MK!?

I'm running a 2.0 in a MK1 with an 1800 head and extractors and yes, it might fit.

The 2.0 block is 1 cm taller than the 1600/1800 blocks which brings your exhaust up 1 cm.

Mine fitted OK with the 1600 extractors but I suspect it would depend on your style of extractors. Worst case you could probably bend the collector down a bit.

Thanks Pete, might be worth a try then - better get round to Andrew's work shop and start removing the fuel injection wiring (Woo Hoo what fun).
