Hi All
Thinking about getting myself a Golf GTI, however, I'm 6"4' and a little worried about legroom for tall drivers. Are there any other tall drivers that can comment on the Golf's leg / head room before I head down to the local dealer to take a closer inspection?
Thanks

Welcome Doink, hope you enjoy it here. Plenty of room in the Mk5s, more room than in any other Golf.
Do it, you know you want to!!!

Plenty of head room. I have a mate who's also that height and he has enought head room in the MkIV and the V is taller than it. Leg room wise you should be right but I don't know how well those behind you will go. They should still have enough rear leg room though without being that uncomfortable.
Welcome aboard by the way. :)
Cheers,

I'm 6'5", and have absolutely no issues at all. The height-adjustable seat is fantastic, means I can drop it down and give myself some more space, and then pump it all the way up when my girlfriend drives :)

I'm also 6'5 and have a 07 3dr GTI. Of the 23 cars I have owned since 1991, this is the most ergonomically friendly I have had. Heaps of head room and a b-pillar that is not staring you in the face every time you turn your head to the right. I did heaps of research and no other car at the time compared ergonomically, in that price range /size.

I haven't measured specifically, but I think my Octy has slightly more room than a Golf. I know I don't have the driver's seat anywhere near the end of its rearward travel, and I actually have the seat raised slightly and still have loads of headroom (but I'm only 6'2, so a bit of a short-arse in this company).
On the lower end of 6'3... Still have plenty of give in the front seat and room to fit the head.

I'm only 5'11" , but I have the seat adjusted forward so my left foot fits on the footrest (DSG), and I have the steering wheel all the way back.
When I look at how far forward the seat is, I feel a little self-conscious, because it's so far forward compared to any other vehicle I've had.
These little babies have enormous space for drivers, as all the above beanpoles :) have attested.
I reckon tall blokes shouldn't be allowed to buy any other car

I'm around 6' 5" and seat is not all the way back.
Same applies to our 2003 Polo.

6'5" here. Golf is very confortable with my head nowhere near the roof. Much better head and legroom of almost every car i've been in with exception of the E46 BMW 3 series.

6'8" here. I find my Jetta a touch roomier than my mother-in-laws MkV Golf (perhaps the seat goes back just a little more) but both are okay, given the exterior size. I have more problems with legroom than headroom and the narrower centre console helps (I cannot drive a Passat comfortably, for example).

I am 6.4, 100kg. Sunroof. Seats are perfect fit. Had a Honda Accord Euro before and there was a struggle: Low roof (due to the sunroof), not much leg room and that in the family sedan!!! Golf - Perfect!

I'd suggest all you "vertically advantaged" people out there cross off the Liberty (and Outback) from your list, I'm only 6' 2" and I felt a bit like I was driving a letter box !
However, if you want an upright driving position, with room for a top hat as well !, then try a VW T5 Transporter (or Multivan, unless they have c0cked it up with too much ceiling trim. And it is a surprisingly good, comfortable highway cruiser (but less adept in heavy, stop-start traffic).

I am 6'4" and it was the only hatch that I fitted into.
It's better than my Dad's VZ bommodore and it's a much bigger car.

Plenty of room. And unlike a late model Falcon EA-BF or commodore VT on the windscreen isnt in your forehead.
Yet to try the latest FG, but we'll see.

Thanks all for your replies. I picked up my new Golf GTI on NYE. I can't believe how much room there actually is in these cars. Fantasic for tall drivers.
This forum has been fantastic, a wealth of information and certainly assisted me with my final decision on the Golf.

Nothin' at all wrong with 5' 11" mate, in fact I reckon it's the perfect size, just quietly!
