Guys, just throwing the idea out there...
How many people would be interested in an afternoon at the Ultra Fast Karts @ Barbagallo before Christmas?
Haven't looked into bookings yet but it was $150 for 4 races last time I went, about 1 - 1.5 hrs tracktime.

Or there are the Karts in the shed on Stock Rd O'connor to whet the appetite, but Wanneroo sounds more exciting

11-12-2008, 08:18 PM
Yeh this weekend is out for me too.
Guys, spoke to Warren today and he's pretty fully booked this side of Christmas. The week following is better, and since we should all be on holidays too then I reckon a daytime booking or during the week at least should be ok for most. Otherwise we'd have to aim for a Friday night or weekends to get the numbers. We should have the required 10 based on who has replied here, but I might get a few other people along as well to boost the numbers.
Does anyone one have specific days they can't make it?
MattyT

Boxing day is out. Besides that I'm wide open.

Ok guys, sorry I've been a bit slow organising & apologies if this may be short notice for some but I have booked us in for this coming Friday 2nd Jan from 4pm.
I've opted for the Maxi Grand Prix format which is practice plus 4 x 5-lap races. Cost is $150 per person. Please reply back or PM if you can make it as I've paid a deposit already and I'll need to confirm numbers. There is an optional BBQ after @ $15 per person so let me know if you would like that too.
More info here: http://www.ultrafastkarts.com.au/pricing.html

I convinced Joe to come!!! Only after appealing to his competitive side and rekindling the once great racer in him:wasntme:
I told him i was gonna kick his ass and the trophy was mine. He swiftly responded with "see you friday" HA!
So Grant, Matty, Me, Joe, Grants mates??, Geoff, we just need 3-4 more guys!! Jordan?? Anyone?
geoff_gti
31-12-2008, 05:02 PM
I'll just bring my trophy from last time and let you all bow before my awesomeness as I collect another one :D
I've already had a couple of people say no, and J reckons he'll be down south.
Dunno, I reckon we'll have to postpone it til later in Jan or Feb. Too close to Christmas and everyone has spent too much already.... don't want to stuff Warren around so I'll have to decide tonight. So if anyone else is thinking maybe, I need a YES! tonight or it's off.

Does this help anyone who can't make Friday but would still like to go?
Or the cheaper 3-race option ($125)

Guys, just got off the phone with Warren and he can run us with another group so we're still on!
Was considering postponing to try and get a few more of the 'regular' members along...but we can always go again in another few months :)
So, 4pm tomorrow.

No I'd say a t-shirt and shorts since it's going to be so hot! You'll be given a racing suit and helmet to wear. Just make sure you have sneakers on otherwise you'll get manky racing boots :(
GOLFBALLS
01-01-2009, 11:23 PM
Ah. Luckily i have my own race suit, helmet and racing boots:nana:

Yea cheers for organising that Geoff!
I had no idea Kyle would be so quick! It's only the 5th time he's been in a Go Kart. Obviously a natural!
That top hairpin is the killer. If i can sort that out next time i think i'll do better than 5th!
PS: I got flashed by that bloody speed camera on the freeway:duh: There was another car right beside me so i might get away with it:goodluck:
geoff_gti
02-01-2009, 09:50 PM
Oh yes, we WILL be doing that again. Kyle was pretty consistant with his times. I will be challenging for a rematch :D
Ah crap, I saw the camera & hit the brakes just as it flashed...figured it was you, me or one of those two in the left lane. I was trying to keep up to get a photo of you guys!!! Lucky I hadn't tried to fang it past :o
Sorting though some wikid photos now, big thanks to young Neil (Grant's son) for taking heaps of photos for us. Over 200 on mine!

Congrats to Grant on getting fastest lap in two of the races :)
Oh and obviously to Kyle as well for winning overall!!

We neeeeed to go again. I didnt know you could do most of the track flat out. I was lifting off and using the brake for turn 1 and the hairpin

Just keep the boot in Matty! Take a nice wide arc from the outer edge of the track to turn in, hit the apex and unwind it right out to the edge again so the tyres dont scrub off your speed and you keep your momentum. Momentum is everything in a kart!
You can hear the engine(s) bog down too when you are'nt carrying enough speed. That'll kill your lap times dude.
Kyle said he only lifted for a second at the top hairpin to break the back away and pitch it in to the apex. Then he floored it again immediately to drift it toward the apex and out. That apparently also lines the kart up into the next left hander which gets you a better run onto the back straight. He never touched the brake pedal!!
I'll be trying this next time. My best time was only 0.01 sec slower than his and i was braking at the top:driver:

Cheers for the tips Wade, i'll be giving em a go next time
So Geoff, wheres da pix??
geoff_gti
04-01-2009, 03:05 PM
Hmm I always brake going into the hairpin, but that's the only place unless there's someone in front of me elsewhere and I have to. Maybe I should back off a bit more before going in to the hairpin so I don't take off so much speed braking there. I did notice the engines bog down but hadn't really thought about it.
I don't normally brake on the first corner either but maybe I should have backed off a bit with someone that close to me.................splat. Oops.
I take it you've done a bit of karting before Wade, since you were all kitted out with the pro-racer suit etc :) Competition stuff? I've been wanting to get into karts for ages, but it's all $$.
Pics soon, couldn't be bothered sorting them yesterday zzzzzzz
