I need some help identifying some parts for my spyder kit car build

I need to know what type of brakes can fit on - I am having trouble getting the calipers and also in particular the brake pad carriers

Also, I cant find out what type of wheel bearings these are. I want to buy some cvs that match.

I really want another set of these, exactly the same. Calipers and carriers. Carriers are proving the difficult bit to locate, and obviously, they need to match each other

here are the wheel bearings off the back

they are on the back of this car, but they are not necessarily rear wheel bearings , they may have come off the front

my neighbour reckons they are audi 4000 parts. I m not so sure what they are, so I need your help

pics of the bearings below. I need to know what cv joints will fit these. I am tipping that they are fairly standard units

I can find the calipers ok, but I am having difficulty find the pad carriers at all, and i need for them to match the calipers.

I have found the ATE ones, but no where at all can I find the carriers.

If I knew what model they were off I would be ok so that I could start ringing suppliers, or even wreckers. At the moment I have only the sites on teh internet, none of which I can find the carriers on.

As for the cv joints, I think that they will be a generic unit and I m almost ready to take the risk and order a set just to see if they fit. Problem is shipping will be more than the parts themselves and I want to do my best to get it right.

My plan was to get some upgraded (drilled and vented) discs on the front and also some (maybe drilled only) on the rear. I can keep the same caliper/carrier set up that I already have, but I need a new set as well as the car only came with the fronts.

I can use the exact same set on the rear as what I already have, I just cant find the damn things, nor do I know enough about them to be able to describe exactly what I am after to a vendor.

I think they are either Audi 4000 or 5000, but that is only a best guess at this stage........

here is the link to the manufacturer of the kit car

I can t contact them cos they have been out of business for a few years now

maybe you guys will recognise the setup when it is next to an engine, I dont even know the engine.

I can only assume that the brakes/bearings/engine etc all came from the same model, but I m not really sure

btw, thanks to bug_racer for the fastest response EVER on pm.

I hadnt even finished writing the second post!

Mate, I reckon the calipers are MK1 GTI 239mm. Same calipers are used on lots of early to late 80's VWs, Scirocco, Jetta and Golf, some with solid and some with vented discs.

I reckon UK ebay or Golfloon would be the places to look.

The wheel bearings will be from the same car too IMO. I have a pair of new ones if they are any use to you. Do you have any idea of the dimensions of them?

i ll get some dimesions of the bearings up shortly so that I can source the cv joints

There's 2 sizes of CV to fit those MK1 hubs/bearings. The early GTI had 90mm CV joints, the later(after the Golf GTI ceased production) Scirocco and mk1 Cabriolet had 100mm CVs which are obviously stronger.

I think the front calipers look like Audi 100 ones, which you would call Audi 5000.

What is the spacing between the boltholes? I have some audi ones I can compare it to that came of An Audi 100.

The rears look like front hubs from a vw golf 2 or 3, but maybe the same as audi. Let us know approx dimensions and we can help.

Almost any VW or Audi CV from the 80s or 90s will fit those splines ;)

Audi 100 is 4000 , audi 200 is 5000

here are some closer pics of the outside of the rear bearing

I m pretty short on tools over here, so accuracy is not the best

approximately 20-21mm diameter, and the bearing length is about 50mm

Mate, so many of those bits look as dry as a dogs donger.

Have you thought of spraying them with some Ardrox protectant or even WD40/Penetrene/Maxsolve?

Looks like a fun project.

I think I might have had a break through - I found a how to video for changing brakes on an 89 vw fox, and it looks like what I am after, along with the front cv joints that I will use on the rear

thats my best guess so far.

BUT

I still cant find the damned carriers to suit, and without them.......

anyone know where I could get some?

Can you get us the part numbers off the brakes pads themselves? We might be able to cross reference them that way and work out what the callipers are off.

ok, some numbers off the pads.......

on the left ear is 3J0, and on the right is Ate, VW Audi (logos)

interesting stuff is in the middle, I suspect:

COBREQ NADP-721 - 2XF
377.615.115.AE - 8095.2

hope that helps

They look a lot like these ones that just popped up for sale

thanks peter, they look pretty similar, but the carriers would not fit into the frame that I have.

Bolts on my frame are 75mm apart. The carriers need to match these......

thanks for the leed, but unless I m missing something I dont think that they will work on my setup

I haven't had much time to do much research yet, i had a look around the Bendix equivalance charts but haven't figured it out yet.

I'll keep digging as time permits.
