Some human scum decided to steal my car lastnight, and then not know how to drive a Mk1, hit a gutter so hard it cracked and shattered the front left rim, ripping it half under the car and to top it all off roll it. I'm bloody devastated right now, i loved the poor little thing to bits. Luckily i have insurance, anyone got a two door mk1 for sale? Here is what is left of my pride and joy...

The little turds.
You can only hope they hurt their heads when they tipped it over.

How did they get it started and get past the steering lock?

Dont throw the wreck away, there should be plenty of bits on it to make another one great.

I feel sorry for you man, that was a sweet Mk1. At least it was insured.

I have a 5 door Mk1 16v that needs work atm, see the classifieds section
Also a Mk2 GTI Aussie Delivered one that will be for sale soon.

They look like they just walked from it, had the seatbelts on unfortunatly, wish i could scrape them up off the road.. but you get that..

I bet these assholes had some fun with her when they found out how well she went. Dad and I are planning to get the wolf 3d ecu off it in the yard before it goes to auction, if we cant, i wanna buy it back, mainly for that and some interior stuff. the problem is nrma auction off the cars so i need to discuss with them if i can get it from them or something.

Try and arrange the buyback with your insurance before it goes to auction.
If you get thm to agree a value for the wreck and take that off your settlement, at least you get the good bits back.
If they wont play, find out what auction.

sorry to hear that bro, it really is such a kick in the teeth to have something stolen but then to find it like that, you must be the angriest man alive.

:( that is the worst thing that could ever happen i recon. when i sold my old mk1 I spent about $4000 on it and the new owner had it a week before he blew the engine, thrashed it to bits, then he called me up and wanted cash back and i sold it to him for $1100 with rego! (I was desperate for cash)

Hope your in your new ride soon mate.

I'll be a good idea to buy one that is more done up than stock so you don't have to start from scratch.

Good luck.

thanks heaps guys, im trying to figure out what i will buy, i would love another mk1, finding the right one is hard as i need something that i can step into and drive with no work required. My dad is hinting to maybe a mk3 if i can get a bit of extra money together just something reliable etc.

Depending on what i can find will also dictate whether i buy my car back from nrma, we were going to switch it accross to shannons but didnt get to it in time, then i would just get the car back no questions without having to buy the damn thing back.

Mate, sorry to hear about your mk1 & hope all goes well with your insurance. Hopefully you'll be able to find another mk1 in good condition soon. They are out there.
I also hope you'll be able to find out who it was & dish out your own punishment as the cop's will probably just give them a slap on the wrist & $150 fine. The justice system suck's arse at the moment.

Good place to start would be local GP's, hospital's etc. for recent car injury's & what not on the night they took it, to get some names.

This happened to one of my friend's car's a few years ago & we had to do our own investigation's as the local cop's are useless (It's just too much work for them to do!). Anyway we found out who it was. From what I understand he still isn't walking to well now!

If you do a good enough job of it where everytime they wake up, they have something to remember you by, they'll learn.

Unfortunatly they walked from the accident, in a way im happy that they rolled it because, that was the last corner before they were out into the bush and then i wouldnt have gotten anyting from it at all. the guy who does forensics around here is a good friend of mum and dads from the local vw club, so they are going to make sure some work gets done on the car, if they name the two assholes who did it they won't be walking right for a while either.

Buy it back if you can. Too much good stuff left on it to let it go. If it does go to auction (which I doubt) it'll go cheap.

Sorry. A sad day:( .

NRMA dont have a buy back option it seems, I'll just got to add up how much all the parts on it are worth to me and decide from there. I am definatly going to try and get the computer out of it before the insurance guy comes to the yard. I would also like the stereo out, which im not sure but as it wasnt listed as an extra on the car insurance can i take it? They said it will depend on the assesor as to what i can and can't take from it.

Golf Loon
09-10-2006, 10:43 AM
I`d rip out the computer and replace the stereo with a stock one before the assessor comes. Just cut the wires and jam another unit in there. He is not gonna try things, hes just gonna look and say its worth $? Probably less than you think!

static1800
09-10-2006, 02:18 PM
thats a top idea loon, the computer will be easy, it wont be noticable as its partly under the dash will just pull out the wires tuck them under the dash and remove it, not likes its going to be driven or anything.

I may know who it was, that car was fingerprinted and DNA'd today and if they got a print the people we belief are the thiefs will go down as they have prints on file as they steal cars all the time and have done alot of breakins. let us only hope...

Sorry to see this thread. Looks a tidy car.

Doesn't the car belong to you until you agree a figure with the insurance company????? If so then you must be entitled to take what you want from the car before the settlement figure is agreed.

If you are not allowed access to the car I'd be kicking off big time.

Are alarms and immobilisers not commonly fitted in Australia? I used to do a bit in the UK and the prices for a basic one here fitted is the same as I used to pay trade to buy them in.

More depression, the MK1 that I was advertising for a neighbour has gone to You pull it somewhere around Adelaide.

A proper shame as it had some good stuff on it.

10-10-2006, 09:16 PM
Am going in first thing tomorrow morning to get some stuff off it, as the police have released it. the Wolf3d is coming out as is the stereo, the guy at the smash repeairs said if it wasnt on the car when i got it, therefore not in my policy i can take it if i have something to replace it with. Would like the seats to and the GTI grill but have nothing to put back in there place.

Will find out when its going to auction if anyone wants a later model cab dash and interior along with pro car front buckets and said grill.

update:

Got the Wolf3d out and my stereo along with other personal effects. The wolf3d controller screen has gone missing, am chasing it up, some young guy was in there stripping a car with his mate and we think they may have pinched it. Bloody Thieves.

Looks like im going to get a mk3, finding a nice reliable mk1 or 2 are difficult. They'res a heap of nice mk3's around found a few nice manuals with alloys at a couple of dealerships. Somewhere in the near future i plan to build up a mk1 two door, hopefully with a 16v equiped with the wolf3d ;)
