Hi all,

I've been reading with interest the threads on the AVC-9000 which seems like a very nice unit. I'm unclear on the status of an Australian distributor - can someone please enlighten me.

I was also doing a search on EBay and came across this (http://tinyurl.com/4on738). I know all the usual caveats about buying from EBay, but was wondering if anyone has purchased one. From what I can make out the functionality seems to be similar to the AVC-9000.

Thanks,

H

Love the way the "Exciting and Interactive and fun THIS" is not eben the product on offer! Seriously though, I looked around and ended up finding this: http://www.zenec.com/index.php?id=130&L=1
Also found there are a few Aussie resellers.

So how much are these units (ZE-NC2000) in Oz, and what is it (other than the sellers command of English) that makes it a better product?

Is there anyone other than these guys (http://www.advancedice.com.au/product_details.php?number=970797) selling them here?

Cheers,

H

The Aussie distributors of Zenec are Advanced Ice. Link here > http://www.advancedice.com.au/

The units were still being tested last week, so were not yet relaeased. I think the going price was about $2,000.
Best to call them and enquire.

Assuming $2,000 is the price, I'm still not clear what you get for the extra $1,100 - other than perhaps an Aussie distributor.

i spoke with Auspack electronics (melbourne distributor for AVC9000) the other day when i picked up my unit.
Unfortunately due to his son's ill health he is closing the business.

I think you will find that the European made Zenec is better quality than the Chinese made units, and that is probably why it is more expensive. Sometimes, it costs more to get the quality you require.
It really is a matter of deciding firstly what you can afford, and whether you are prepared to sacrifice quality to get what you want. I went for the AVIC9000 becuase I was not willing to pay $2,000, and am willing to give the Asian product a chance.
Having said that, I believe Polaris are selling the AVIC9000, under a different name, for about $2,000. I personally would not spend $2k on a AVIC9000 if the alternative was a Zenec at the same price.

So was the AVC-9000 of comparable price to the EBay unit?

With the departure of Auspack, are there any distributors of this unit in Australia (that are selling it for < $1000)?

I take your point on quality although just because something is 'European', it doesn't necessarily imply that a) it is actually manufactured in (Western) Europe or b) it is of significantly better 'quality' than a unit manufactured in Asia.

At more than twice the price, and given that with both units the major components (touch screen, dvd player, etc) are probably sourced from the same region, unless there is significantly more functionality provided by the more expensive unit, I still don't see the value.

I wonder if Nav software licencing (or lack thereof) accounts for any of the price difference?

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
