rayray086
07-10-2008, 04:53 PM
Originally started up and brought about by Neil (99gti), here are the final details for what is to happen on Sunday 12th October.
PRINTER-FRIENDLY ITINERARY IN PDF FORMAT AVAILABLE (http://www.mooshen.com/vwwc/rayray/itinerary.pdf) (thanks to Aaron for the host!)
WHERE
The cruise will be to Morpeth (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=morpeth&ie=UTF8&ll=-32.724909,151.561546&spn=0.724385,1.505127&z=10) (thanks to McCosker for the link).
MEETING POINT
The main meeting point will be at the Park Avenue entrance to Parramatta Park (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=-33.807590,+150.992454&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.80747,150.992473&spn=0.002425,0.004141&t=h&z=18). Meeting time is 10am and will be leaving ON TIME at 10:30am.
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/parkaveparrapark-2.jpg
HOWEVER, best entrance point to Parramatta Park would be from Pitt St and parking just before the Park Ave exit (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&saddr=Pitt+St&daddr=-33.813872,150.997867+to:-33.808036,150.992146&hl=en&geocode=FTwJ_P0dYQsACQ%3B%3BFVwh_P0dEvX_CA&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=19&via=1&dirflg=w&sll=-33.813848,150.997376&sspn=0.001212,0.002071&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.811512,150.995214&spn=0.009699,0.016565&t=h&z=16) - that section is a one-way and it may potentially cause havoc when we're trying to leave the place if we were parked above it.

Those around the city and in the Chatswood area can contact Mischa (0425327113) to travel in a convoy down to Parramatta Park.
Those in the south/south-west area can meet up with me (Raymond - 0405313804) at Liverpool Krispy Kremes (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&saddr=&daddr=-33.906904,150.918964&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=18&sll=-33.90714,150.919297&sspn=0.002422,0.004141&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=18) on Orange Grove Road/Cumberland Hwy. Meet-up at Liverpool Krispy Kremes will be 9am and leaving no later than 9:30am.

ITINERARY
We will be going through Darcy Road --> Cumberland Highway (#7) --> Old Windsor Road (#2). We will continue onto Windsor Road until we reach Putty Road (#69). This is a ~150km drive with no petrol stations stocking 98 octane in sight, so make sure you're stocked up on fuel before embarking on this. There are some pretty big petrol stations around the Kellyville area so maybe that's an ideal petrol stop.
We will also be making a quick rest stop at the Halfway House on Putty Road to let everyone catch up.
We will make a right-turn off Putty Road on to Mitchell Line of Road/Golden Hwy --> New England Hwy (#15). Finally, there will be a left turn onto Morpeth Road. Depending on what's planned, we might stop at the side of the road about 4km in (check Google Map link below) to meet up with some of the local dubbers so they'll lead us to the reserve/park area. We are aiming for an arrival time of around 2:00pm.

POSSIBLE DESTINATIONS
schoona has very kindly put together for us a good number of places we can stop at :bigok::
I went for a drive out there today to scout things as far as meet/food goes. Here's what I got:
River Bank
No BBQ facilities
Reasonable parking (I have no idea what the head count is, but it's a factor all the same)
Amenities block
Maitland Triathlon on from 6am till 11am...they may all stick around though so may be crowded?
Ray Lawler reserve
It's at the north east end of town.
Electric BBQ
A coule of park seats/covered.
Toilet block
Again not sure of numbers, but parking would be tight. Photo ops
Morpeth BC
Good parking/facilities
I have never eaten there though so no idea what menu is like.
Footy field
May be tight, can use BC parking aswell.
Would need to bring own BBQ (but you could do that for the river bank to)
Sit in the grandstand
River Royal Inn
Sits in a solitary position away from the "CBD".
Restaurant open Sunday for "Brunch". Doubt that extends to our time frame but we will see.
Cafe/ Take Away
Plenty of small cafe/take-away shops scattered throughtout the main street, plus the commercial hotel. Get a feed there and drive down to the bank to eat or something?
My vote is the Ray Lawler Reserve. If people want to bring there own snags and tongs it suits them, they can cook while we get lunch from a cafe, back to the reserve to eat and chat....whatever from then...
Your call now
Perhaps Neil already had a specific destination in mind? Whoever has his contact can possibly confirm this for us?
FOOD/DRINKS/THINGS TO DO
BYO food and drinks. As schoona pointed out, we will definitely be stopping at a place where we can eat our own prepared lunches and most likely where we can start up a BBQ too. There should also be shops/cafes too for those who prefer buying.
It'd be appreciated if you brought enough to share around though! I usually bring along my home-cook stir fry noodles (usually a hit with you dubbers), so I suppose there will be enough for some that didn't bring food nor money haha.
RETURN JOURNEY
Journey back will be a split affair (you don't have to leave with everyone else), but I think most of us will either go back through Old Pac or the Freeway (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&saddr=Morpeth+Rd&daddr=Cumberland+Hwy&hl=en&geocode=FZVhDP4d3BcJCQ%3BFWhy_f0d4aoBCQ&mra=ls&sll=-33.195015,151.11946&sspn=1.2503,2.120361&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.213414,151.806335&spn=1.250038,2.120361&z=9).

THE SMALL PRINT
This is a cruise and not a rally - please stick to the speed limit! If giving consideration to the safety of others and yourself isn't enough, Putty Road usually has a good number of cops patrolling around, especially over the weekends.
Depending if I can be bothered or not, I'll upload a printable copy of the itinerary. Whether or not I'm able to do this, PLEASE print a copy of the itinerary. Our cruises, sad to say, are usually very disorganised compared to other forum-organised cruises, and since we're shooting for a high number of attendees, I'm 99% sure that not everyone will be able to keep up, especially while we're still in the metro area. So PLEASE keep a copy of the itinerary in your car so if you/a group gets dropped behind, you'll still be able to reach Morpeth (hopefully). I'll print off a few copies; I don't have printer cartridges growing off trees :nana:
If there's anything else I missed out, let me know by PM so it won't clutter this thread.

ray you're a champ! can you stick some kind of link in your first post from the other thread so people looking at that thread for the first time can be directed here :)
ill also print off a dozen or so itinerary's on my mega printer to bring along :)
rayray086

No worries. Sure beats studying aye!
I'm in the process of making a PDF for the itinerary - I'll try and keep it to one page. We're all still unsure of the final destination. schoona's idea for Ray Lawler Reserve sounds good, and if I get more good responses for that, I'll finalise it up here and for the PDF.

you just like it cos it shares your name :P
we'll have a quick stop at the halfway house on putty road - no prizes for guessing how far along the putty it is. its a small petrol station but no premium so useless for us.
guys feel free to bring a few snags. ill pick up a massive pack of those generic ones so if you want something more fancy bring it yourself :)

Guys, I was around the Parramatta area today and found that there's heaps of parking outside the park, so you can either wait inside or outside the park.
Hopefully there's gonna be a decent number of people.

If we meet inside prepared to travel a loop before we can exit. THere are lots of cyclist doing laps around the park and it is all ONE WAY!
There is a section in the park which the road bends with the river, we can take quick group snap .. Bend = GOOD ! we can fit all cars in the photos :) It is not a bad view either.
So how may are we excepting to meet at the park ??

Bahaha **** my grille looks goofy.
Yeah there wasn't many at all! A good number of Mk5 GTIs and GT TDIs! Damn quick cars, the Mk3s were left for dead! There was a sweet Mk3 TDI (owned by Sam - I don't know his username here) as well but unfortunately lost him when we were very close to the destination...

Haheem...
Wanna bet?
Sounds like a challenge either way. Few things to my advantage the NA 20V head (7A) flows the most of any 20V - I have a bigger bore for more capacity - and believe it or not less weight. All I need to do is stop reading about it and get back to the garage.
What are you aiming for mischa? Still planning GT30 with complete top and bottom end rebuild?
I'm thinking my custom exhaust manifld and one of these (http://www.otomoto.com.au/kkr/KKR430.html) feed into a water to air intercooler...
Back on topic - thanks for a great drive today guys great to meet most of you. I'll do my best to make it to any future drives seeings how the ozaudi guys are a bunch of slackers

You gotta come to the GTG on November the 12th so we can be better than everyone else :)

This is true. Now I'm off to locate my missing bottom end
I took it in to get some work done and haven't heard anything in over a month - the guy has just vanished.
I should have it ready by the end of summer so I'll come for another drive then.

It was an awesome cruise. I clocked over 490Kms from garage and back  Very tiring I clonked out and woke up only 15 mins ago lol.
This would probably the last cruise I will be doing in a long while, I reckon the hard thrashing just instigated me to point where a need a massive service. Coming home I can hear my timing chain chattering, engine mount is begging to be changed, - coolant level ... and the list goes go on...... Time like this I wish I had a mk V5
Nevertheless, no regrets ! It was nice to catch up with old and meet new members. As always a warm welcome to first timers.
For those who agreed to meet at liverpool KK and never showed up YOU'RE AND :moonie: at least call !!

Epic it was - the bit after the Halfway House was fantastic though. Definitely up for another run - better tyres + refreshed suspension will make for a more enjoyable run!

Hey Guys,
I wish i had of checked the cruise forum earlier DOH! I only live about 15 minutes from Morpeth, and i would have liked to have met you guys.
I like what Fuzion has done to his car, so i would have liked to have had a better look at it and a chat.
Anyways, you'll have to do another trip in this direction some time. Hopefully after i start doing some mods. My red GTI is still a stocker for the most part, until i get some time/money/aussie dollar gets a heart transplant.
Dan.
