Hi mates,

unfortunately in OZ the Scirocco MK1 is very rare to see, so I have decided to let you know about my project. I bought this car 19 years ago and drove it only for 3 days, after that it stood the whole time in a barn. About 3 years ago I fetched it back to my place and began to build it new. The substance was very good, only quite little rust. The year of manufacture is 1980, at this time the rust-proofing was a little bit better than the years before. After all I made a new body cavity sealing, this is the most important thing for a Scirocco because they already rusted in the catalog:) The engine is a 1,6 l 85 HP with the 2B5 carb, except of little modifications it's original. In June of this year I registered the car after 19 years pause, the first drive was an awesome moment;-)

So now have a look at my pics, hope you like it. I have many more pics, but I guess it's enough:)

Cheers
Mario

Lucky man, getting to restore a car to that condition. It looks like you've poured your heart into that build, and the quality and how cohesive the car is as a whole really shows this. Congrats mate!

Wow, thank you guys for the cool comments :bowdown::bowdown:

I'm very excited that 15000 km away from my hometown people also fascinated about the Scirocco MK1. For me it's a particular car because it was my first car ever and I'm crazy about the design, I also luv other Volkwagons but this is definitely my fav:)

Does anybody knows how many Sciroccos are registered in Australia???

Nice job on the all to rare Mk 1 Scirocco Mario, top marks for saving one of VW's pinnacle cars, Pity the factory never followed them up with more of the same formula.

As for Mk 1's in Australia, there is nearer 20 about, I have 4 currently, and have had another 2 pass thru my hands, I have info of another 2 currently going through the rebuild, restoration process on the east coast.

Have you any more images of the roof replacement ?? 2 of my cars have aftermarket sun roofs fitted and i'd rather they didnt....

Good luck on keeping her running for many years to come :toast:

Hi,

about 20 is not very much:biggrin: And you are a lucky owner of 20 percent of it:)

Yes for sure I have more pics from the roof replacement, I can send you those via email, think for the most people here it's not so interesting!?

Cheers

Only hoard them as most folk here would have crushed them by now.. they all need LOADS of time and tlc spent on them.... maybe something for my retirement...and thats not too far away !!

IM sent mario , cheers bud.
