View Full Version : my Tamiya RC GTI

i haven't touched my RC car since at least year 9 and a few weeks back after randomly searching ebay i saw the Tamiya 1:10 GTI body so i bought it straight away.

the coolest thing about these bodies is you can do what ever colour scheme you want on them as you buy them as a transparent plastic shell. you have to paint them, cut them out and apply the stickers so obviously i made mine to look like my real CW GTI.

i also go my car going again and found some cool BBS looking wheels at my local hobby shop and bought a couple new NiMH batteries for it. i forgot how much fun the thing can be!

heres the final result

my car isnt your standard Tamiya TL01 either... the speed comes from the 15 turn motor and LRP electronic speed control

and yes my girlfriend recons its extremely lame :duh:

Of course ... you now have to trade your 5-door CW real GTI back in on a 3-door. Just so long as you understand that.

ebay is your friend..http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37.l1313&satitle=tamiya+gti&category0=

you can go for a fuel one but thats when things start getting expensive. plus theyre a lot of work to run. they are seriously fast though.

Thj eonly other prob with petrol versions is that yr neighbours tend to get a bit annoyed. you end up having to go to a local shopping centre or commercial carpark on weekends

Talk to me about this before you buy anything. I know more about RC than real cars. Including where to get MK1 shells for them.:)

My goal is to collect every VW derivative Tamiya RC model. Let's just say I'm not far off that goal.

I was president of www.brccc.org (http://www.brccc.org) for 2 years and on the committee for 4 years.

With racing on a Wednesday night I just can't get there due to my current work hours.

I'll pop up some pics later.

This on is really cute. It's radio controlled and about the same size as a Matchbox car. It's a genuine VW Part believe it or not.

This is my favourite "water cooled" Tamiya

There's more, that's all pictures from the original model thread.

Yes they are, ive got one that has all up costed me about $1100, this was afew years back ofcourse before i got a real car. it just on 25% ethanol fuel, with a massive tuned exhuast pipe (which is much like a turbo for those small cars) and even put a 2 speed gear box on it, it would easily crack 80km/hr!! sooo much fun :P

Oh i miss my TL01 sooooo much. I had an LRP speed control, carbon suspension bits, oil dampers, carbon prop shaft, 8 turn motor, plus heaps and heaps of other stuff. I spent over 1200 on that thing while i was in high school lol I worked just to support that. Sold it for 500 to buy a PS2

I want another one :(

You can use it to test out wheel mods now lol

That looks wiked mark! I want one! Hmmmmm tempting.... but a grand is a bit much....

zz2
09-09-2008, 01:18 AM
you dont have to spend a grand on a RC car! a 2 channel controller, decent motor and electronic speed control will give you a great starting set up! for around $250-300 off ebay

speaking of upgrades my lightweight prop shaft, high speed servo and aluminum front steering hubs arrived today. i think my final mod will be a set of oil filled shocks then im not spending anymore. otherwise its junior high school all over again.

besides i got a REAL GTI to waste my money modding

I would't go straight to ebay.
I would strongly suggest going to your local hobby shop where you should be able to pick up a RTR Tamiya TT01 (pre assembled, speed controller and motor, transmitter and batts and charger) for around $350-400.

if you need more help ask away as Peter Jones and myself (VP ACTMCRC) will be able to help

Or shop where the RC racers shop http://www.rcmart.com (http://www.rcmart.com/)

At the risk of getting flamed, the Tamiya Distributers, Toy Traders aren't really doing the Australian RC industry any big favours.

I'll agree with you 100% there, however as a first purchase a trip to their LHS is definitely a good move, as you'll be able to get good advice which a website can't provide.

agreed you cant beat the advice and the mandatory long yarn with the guys at your local hobby shop but ebay is still the bomb for all those misc parts and hop up options. my new alloy hubs, lightweight drive shaft and uni joints arrived in last week. im still waiting for my high speed metal geared servo though :frown:
