Hey Gavin, if yr chasing a good spec tyre also try www.tirerack.com in the US.

Get a quote from them and you might be surprised. delivery is quite quick too

(make sure you add local customs, duty, agency fees and GST to the total, and it will still be cheaper than Oz)

Ouch....but then again how much is shipping? You still have to pay for them to be fitted and balanced (~$20/corner)

It's not only tyres - a few years ago I bought an O2 sensor for the Jackaroo from Rockauto in the US for 57.00 + shipping approx 30.00. Price here? $600 ex GST from GMH, $300-ish from the Repcos & Bursons et al.

Just got a 1.8" hard drive for a laptop from China - $AU75 landed, price here $260.00 ex GST. from a wholesaler......

I'm sure I read on a forum somewhere that freight for 4 tyres from the USA to here was around $300, but that's trusting my memory - could be wildly inaccurate :)

One of the guys from OzAudi purchased some Goodyear Asymmetrics from Tyrerack:

Tyres+Shipping: $1507.50 USD= approx $1640 AUD (about 92c exchange rate)
Extra import charge: 10% duty of tyre cost + 10%GST of tyre cost, shipping and duty = 330.00AUD
Extra fitting, balance+disposal from local Goodyear shop: $70
All up: $2040.00

By comparison, local goodyear were quoting $2560.

Assuming their website hasn't changed, one usually has to email them directly to get a quote for international destinations.

I have used Tire Rack myself, and found them great value. I purchased four Hankook tyres for a 370Z, I had them fitted at a local Hankook dealer, who quoted me more just for the rears, than it cost me for all four shipped to my home. They only took around five days to arrive also.

I thought they didn't ship certain brands anymore due to retailers here getting upset. If only they realised a fairer price here is all it takes, people still get them fitted here anyway and would be happy to pay a little more to do it locally.

I was told that by one customer service person last time I enquired. But I sent multiple messages by mistake, and the second gave me a price to ship. So I suppose it depends which customer service person you contact.
