I purchased a shiny red Octavia TDI with DSG in early July for $35185 driveaway from Newcastle Skoda. The price was extremely competitive and the purchase experience was quite pleasant, and I could not be more impressed with the driving experience so far delivered. Never owned a diesel or a european vehicle before. The computer says I am averaging 6.7ltrs/100km, would like to check this against a manual calculation but the missus keeps filling the car and never remembers the odometer reading. Last car we had was a Prado and the trip compuer was approximately 0.9ltrs/100km optimistic. Have not yet had the opportunity for a long distance trip. Very interested in buying an ST3, especially since it looks like they only cost $800AUS. Would really like to experience another 70NM of torque, this should mean that you never really need to go above 2500RPM for most driving purposes, other than hosing off wannabees at the lights. Only complaints to date are;
1. No cupholders in the rear
2. No illumination for the ignition at night when putting the key in the ignition.
3. Those bloody left hand blinker stalks.
I look forward to hearing from others that are new to Skoda.
Combi or Limousine?
Welcome to the world of gadgets & tricky things. I'm still discovering features after 6 weeks.
1) Yep stupid ommission
2) Haven't noticed
3) You'll get used to it very quickly (it's all the other cars that are wrong).
If it helps, my trip computer is 0.1L/100km optimistic (it reads 7.1, I get 7.2). Which isn't bad considering the speedo is 9% optimistic @100kmh.

Hi Brad
I bought an Elegance by the way. Your right about all the features though, I dont think I will ever master them all. It certainly does not help that the owners manual was translated from Czech to English by a chinaman. By the way I have just about mastered left hand blinker stalks, its just that I am now putting my wipers on occasionally in my work truck. I'll have to check the speedo with my Tom Tom, although it is about 5km/h faster than my speedo in my work truck. My aim in life, at the moment is to drive a whole work day without the Tom Tom speed alarm sounding, although I doubt I will ever achieve that, only need to improve by about 50 warnings.
But is it a wagon (combi) or a sedan (limousine)?
I have similar wiper issues when I drive SWMBOs Outlander. Quick decision lane changes often result in a smeared windscreen.
I already had the golf and we bought my wife the Skoda just so the wiper stalk would be on the same side! :biggrin:

I bought a Transporter for my regular trips away to (dog) agility trials, so then the Laser had to go (18 years old and the wiper stalk was now on the wrong side). Buying the Skoda wagon was one of the best car-buying decisions I have ever made - and I think the missus loves the RS even more than I do :)

Just went to sydney this morning for the motor show. Filled up after 937 kms with 54.3 litres of diesel for 5.8 l/100kms real economy (computer said 6.3 l/100kms). Best economy yet with 6100kms on the odometer. That tank involved about 450kms highway and 450kms around town driving. Had a look at the Octavia RS TDI at the show, pity it wasn't available 3 months ago might have considered spending a bit more. It would be nice to get some economy feedback from other Octavia TDI DSG owners.
