Phantom Plug....

Hi all,

Was having a poke around under the bonnet yesterday, work is slow so I figure I may as well keep my car clean in the meantime:)

One of the things I wanted to check was if the headlight adjusting dial actually worked as it didn't seem so the other night. Well it does!! Yay!

While I had the rear headlight cover off, I noticed a stray plug, not attached to anything....the strange bit is, I couldn't even see anywhere that it might go????
It's attached to the wiring loom for the drivers side headlight, has hot pink insulation inside it and is a 2 pin connector. The connector also rotates...
Any Ideas??

The top left of the image is the windscreen washer reservoir.

I think it could possibley be for opional spot/fog lights

Sounds like it may be, the GTI's come with the fog lights below the blinker unit, but in all the other models its usually just a plastic bump the looks like the fog light. I would presume it has the same wiring setup as the GTI's otherwise they would have to make seperate units, so its probably just the stray fog lead.

Yep I agree, definitely looks to me like it would be for the integrated fog lights in the headlight cluster.

its none of those .. the foglights in the headlight cluster is all part and parcel with the main plug for the headlamps

that plug right there seems to be an unimportant enginebay temperature sensor..

tbh i dont even know why they have it.. ive unplugged mine on both my mkIvs on numerous occasions and nothing seems to ever register that its missing etc..

dont worry about it

the thing that its usually plugged in to usually has a silly plastic bracket thats clipped in to the back of the slam panel above that head light

the sensor itself looks much like the one that resides down in the lower right handside of your bumper which registers the outside ambient air temp :)

they yeah they are all bound yet they have nothing to do with headlight :wasntme:

I initially thought it might have been for foggies, but it's only on the driver's side, is a very short lead and has no current, well no 12v current, with any lights on/off, engine on/off.

It could be that, but the cord isn't long enough to reach anywhere other than around the part of the chassis rail under it, It would only reach the headlight if I REALLY forced it!!

Maybe its for my missing super-go-fast-jet-pack thing...:driver::driver:

really dont worry about it.. if your THAT worried get a VAG COM Plugged in and see if anything pops up
