HI Guys,
I just wanted to introduce myself I have been reading this forum for a while. I am currently looking to buy a new (or near new at the right price) Polo GTI. I am in Perth, and there are none to test drive at the dealers currently! Their only suggestion is to order one with it subject to a test drive!
Also looking at 1-2 year old astra turbos as well but swaying towards the polo. Just a hard car to come by in Perth!

Welcome... :)
I first test drove a Polo GTI in Perth at Osbourne Park. They just took one out of the lot and went around the commercial area behind.
You won't be disappointed when you do drive it.

There are a few Polo GTI drivers in Perth on here, maybe if you asked one really nicely :)

That's a bit of a bugger.
I test drove one less than 2 weeks ago at John Hughes. They had one red one on the showroom floor. They also had one red one in the holding yard in welshpool, which I am taking delivery of tomorrow
Maybe the one in the showroom has sold as well? Whatever you do, don;t go and try to take mine for a drive before I pick it up tomorrow.

Haha dont worry I wont be taking your future car for a flogging. Yeah I did call John Hughes and they said they had all been sold. I live right next to the osborne park dealership so I went their first and there was a red one in the showroom but he wouldn't let me drive it as it had just been sold. At least they are not letting out new customer cars for test drives I guess! Nice car, and definitely more roomy than I was expecting just wanna see what it drives like now!
The astra is german but built in Belgium. Its a nice car but more expensive, and the rear vision in the coup is crap for one!

i did the same thing there mate and was almost set on a late '06 astra turbo (new shape) but spoke to my old mechanic and he said that holden have had several being returned with problem after problem after problem of all types (his cousin or brother is one of the mechanics and surfers city holden). once i jumped in a new polo i knew it was what i was looking for. then i test drove the car i have now (it was already chipped when i test drove it) and whilst still on the test drive i told the dealer i will take it with a look similar to this :D.
seriously, contact a perth owner of a chipped Polo and you will not even think about another car again.
Cheers,
Rhys

welcome, turbo. the biggest thing that put me off the astras was the interior. the dash and console area look like they were designed in the 80's. i considered the usual suspects too (xr4, ralliart colt, swift sport, etc), but since i got the GTI i have never looked back. good luck!
i was at VW vic park the other day and a red Pogo in the showroom had a big red 'sold' banner on the window. people are suddenly getting interested in our little rocket! :driver:

Hey guys thanks for all the feedback, yes I would love to see what one of the chipped polo's are like! I agree about the astra interior, and I have heard things about their reliability as well. They just don't seem as much of a cohesive package. The thing that attracted me to the astra was more that they are really cheap for an 06 or 07 model and the luxury items etc. I would definitely be looking to chip the polo after a while, that kind of power increase for such a relatively small outlay is just too good to pass up!

Hi turbo, welcome aboard!
Hopefully you will find one soon...there is a tonne of stuff you can do to them if you're interested. Unfortunately another bloke in Perth I know of has just sold his GTI in the last couple of weeks otherwise you might have been able to take a look at his.
Good luck in the search! :driver:
What's the waiting period like on these now from the dealers?

The waiting period I have been told is around 2 weeks so not too bad. They have them in storage but won't get them into the dealership until someone actually buys one alot of the time.
I think the ecu flash upgrade would definitely be worth it at least from what i have read on these forums.

Hey turbo,
if they have them in the warehouse that's about right. I ordered mine, they had it in Welshpool and it too about 10 working days for delivery (which was yesterday ).
Anyway, I paid $28,500 driveaway for mine 2 weeks ago, and I reckon you might be able to get that down a bit because when i offered that price they didn't try and haggle at all.

Finally got to test drive a gti, definitely like it so I think I have almost decided on the polo now! I was really impressed with how much torque it had too, a lot more driveable than other turbos I have driven. Definitely a fun car for the price.
Out of interest, what do you guys reckon a good price for a 2007 model gti is? With pretty low k's say under 20,000. Just tossing up whether to go near new or brand new!

i reckon save the $$$ and go a second hand one.
you know how they say that certain cars are driven by certain people? i reckon that anyone who drives a polo (or any vw for that matter) would have taken care of it, so you should be in safe hands.
i know i would have. i think i treat my car the worst of any current model vw owner (throwing snowboards and snowboard boots in the back, not washing it more than a couple times a month, its parked in the street overnight etc).

Realistically, with no factory options, probably about 22/23k

one thing i must mention my friend, you will learn very fast that there is no such thing as saving cash whilst being a member on this site because you will be spending a dollop on mods in no time. don't say you'll be able to hold off because i have heard that many times before. the friendly people on this forum will easily persuade you into several purchases, especially when cheap group buys come up, how can you say no!
i hope that $3000 or whatever it is you "saved" for leather will be going straight into a chip and other tasty mods :D.

Exactly, Lora. (Talk about them deluding themselves.) The wavelength of Red light on the spectrum is approx. 700 nanometres and the spectrum procedes thru to 400 nanometres (violet) ... covering approx. 430 - 750 Terahertz for the electromagnetic spectrum. Long wavelengths are slower than short wavelengths ... ergo Red is slower than White (or Blue ... ask Eddy).

I have heard that there is actually a reason for red being faster. Less coats of paint is required to paint a red car, which means it is (very marginally) thinner and more aerodynamic than other colours. But also fades more and quicker.
