Hi fellow dubbers,
I just got a quote from my local dealer for doing the front rotors and pads on my 2005 Golf Sport... $635! Any suggestions on alternatives to dealers using OEM or compatible parts?
Thanks!

You could try ECS rotors from the US and than have somebody fit them locally ?

Bloody hell!! There are plenty other places around Melbourne that should be able to do it for half that. Someone will advise shortly.
But damn, dealers are thieves!

Can't help with a fitter but for almost any street driven car I'd recommend DBA rotors & Ferodo DS2000, Formula Ferodo or Ferodo DS Performance They also have a new one coming called ThermoQuiet (TQ) which sounds quite good (low dust, low noise, max temp 600deg). At a guess, that combo will be about $400-$450 in parts but will offer superior braking over the VW item. Don't forget to get the brake fluid done if it hasn't been done in the last 12 months.
Surely there are a few VW specialists in Melbourne that can do the job?

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll check on some VW specialists to get some quotes. The DBA rotors and ferodo pads also look interesting.
Again, ,many thanks.

If you want more help in choosing the correct ferodo brake pad for your driving style then get in touch with MotoSpecs tech department.

I got my rotors from www.germanautoparts.com in the USA. Good service and relatively quick shipping. Have a look at my thread which is down a bit for pictures of my rotors and a look in the recommended supplier testimonials for people who have used these guys.
Oh and you think that $635 is nasty. Try $580 each for two new rotors and front pads are $335 for the set. That's nearly $1500 before labour!
I paid $495 in total to get the rotors shipped here from the USA. :)
Cheers,
Trent
