I love reading these sorts of threads, the guys who detail cars are in general very informative so it's worth reading as well as looking at the pics:)

Nice find

I'll be doing my wheels (all over...100%...inside and out) when I get home. I'm going to try and reduce the amount of brake dust by trying a wheel wax. Also...the car will get clay bar'd. Stuffed if I am going to put it back to the dealership. Their idea of a clay bar is leave it sitting outside, then wash it 1 hour before I am due to pick it up.

Sorry OPVW...doesn't cut it for me.

I did this last detail of my car, make sure you use synthetic wax tho, the natural stuff kinda washes off pretty quick:oops::oops::oops:

Yup ... Synthetic. (The "Wheel Wax" variant....right?)

The carabuna wax however tis spelt doesn't wash off quick - so long as you use the paste. Paste waxes last up to around 6X longer. Takes longer to put on though, so most people don't bother.

Very nice find. Wish i had the time to do that!

Am curious about this 50/50 thing the guy did - is it the claybar that got rid of it? or machine polishing it?

And what was product used in engine bay? i want some!

I think i need some advice about cleaning car.... longest i've spent detailing it was about 3hrs.

D3bb4, talk to DMS_Dan about a cleaning day in Rozelle (if you're in sydney). He'll tell you about it. There's a few guys that host this information day where they teach you the best ways to prep, clean, detail etc your car, and they will give you vouchers for the products they use if you want to buy them. It's $40 for the day, well worth it IMO! I'm going to the first one after i get my licence back:D

I want to clean my Arches and Engine bay like that..

and the door hinges etc!!!

what does he use... none of the names of things he said look like anything available in NZ

the other thing with mkIVs you should remove your wheel arch liners once in a while (well at least on the front any way) its scary how much leaves and buld up you get on the inside.. that just stay damn.. and im guessing in time would cause rusting..

This stuff, not sure where to get it though....

The 50/50 thing was how he used the rotary polisher on one side of the tape and not the other.

I bought myself one and DAMN!! No more aches and pains from my crook shoulder from polishing!!

I agree, it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to get a great, shiny finish. If I could work out how to insert images off my computer i'd show what I mean:)

www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.us for uploading images.
They can also resize and compress images for you as well but the easiest way to do that is probably on your PC with MS Paint or Microsoft Office Picture Editor. This will also cut down on your upload times.
Both sites then provide links you can copy and paste into here to display an image.
Hope this helps.

That looks good mate.

I've been doing some research and it seems Zymol, Autoglym, and Swissvax make some really high quality stuff. I can't believe I'm now looking to buy a tub of car wax worth more than $100!!

HitmanR32, try www.carcareproducts.com.au. They have a heap of quality stuff and some good beginner packs.

Full sun shot, on some angles you can see the marring/hazing left by the I.P on Green.

Ok, this is from a day's work with Meg's paint cleaner, deep crystal polish then 2 coats of Carnuba wax, applied then removed with a rotary buffer, the final buff with a lambs wool fine finishing pad:)

Next major detail i'm looking at filling all the stone chips and scratches, hitting it all with a claybar treatment, a quick sand then full polish:)
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x177/aus_e36/IMG_1032.jpg

pretty close in my opinion, especially since the wax used on this probably costs the same as all three of my Meguiars bottles!!:):)

Sorry for poor quality of pics, my digital camera is playing up, had to use my phone...
