Apparently these rims are now made with specs to fit a MK4 (18x8 ET35 5x100)
How do you reckon they would look?

if not, im sure you can always sell them again for the same.
imo probably best to try one on with a tyre fitted and see how it looks??

Hey thanks heaps for doing that Tim, helps me visualise it a bit, I can't find any shots of MKIV's with that wheel.
I'm just a fan/sucker for OEM+ and I guess I'm also a little uncertain about whether it would be an improvement over the R-Lines.

yeah I think i prefer the R-Lines. If you really want to go to 18" Id just chase some R32 aristos. Would keep the same look you have already which is sweeeet maaaate.

I'm swinging back and forth here, not sure what to do, I have a soft spot for the R-Lines but sometimes I just feel the car needs a little more muscle in the wheel department. I can't find a photo on the Net of a MK4 with these wheels, so that kind of makes me want to do it even more. :duh:
I hate this feeling when you start wanting to buy something that you know you don't really need. I told myself I was done with the car and now I've been bitten by this bug again.
By the way, thanks everybody for the input.

You can always keep your old wheels and switch them back if you don't think they would suit. I'm convinved they would look awesome fitted anyway.
And don't worry, it's only normal to catch the wheel fetish bug from owning a VW.

10-08-2008, 11:58 PM
keep the ones you have, the ones you are considering are too similar to what you already have and you may find yourself bored with the way the look pretty soon as overall they wont make much of a difference to the way that the car looks now, and as most people have pointed out, its looking pretty smooth at the moment :)
mabe look for another style which is still OEM'ish?
D3bb4
11-08-2008, 12:28 AM
Anything silver looks OEM-ish IMO :P
Throw audi rims on if they fit maybe?
Dunno, i like the ones you suggested, because they look more modern than the ones you have now (which look like R32 rims) - so is like a facelift.

if i were you i'd definitely go with the MKV R32 rims, they would look awesome on the MKIV, especially in 18's. yes the MKIV R32 rims look sweet as well but for your car they just look that tad bit small. the newer ones make your car look more aggressive and modern, and they would perfectly suit your ride height.....just my opinion.
If you want sometihing a little more in line with your GTI,

Well, I've bitten the bullet on the wheels. I've pondered long and hard on it and I'm convinced they will enhance the car in a positive and worthwhile way. Stepping up from 17 to 18 inch, half an inch wider and increased offset from ET38 to ET35 are going to give that little extra muscle in an area I think is missing from the car at present
As others have pointed out the wheels are quite similar in style and I like that because I don't want to lose that look, at the same time I feel they are a nicely updated version of the "R" theme. Actually, In person they actually look a little larger than the 18 inch Aristo style, an illusion created by the spoke pattern.
I guess with what I've done to her she may not be wild ahead turner, but I'm also a person very conscious of turning the wrong heads and prefer the OEM styling.
Once I get everything sorted, prepare for an onslaught of photos.
Thanks again for everyone's pointers/opinions/views.

Mate I used some of this stuff, picked it up a couple of years ago from one of the Aussie online detailing supply stores. (can't remember which one now). In the detailing forum on here I think there's links. This stuff seems to keep the hideous brake dust our cars get at bay for a couple of weeks at least.
And it smells real nice, like coconuts or something.

For a few anxious minutes I thought I might have some clearance issues with the tyres and the height adjusting rings on the front KW's but everything worked out perfectly. :drinkbeer:
