Hi,

Just wondering, for the sake of my assignment at uni, whether anyone has ever( for some strange reason) had their 1.5 diesel on a dyno.

I'm looking around for some torque curves etc... even some specific fuel consumption curves would be good.

Anyone?

nope - though i came close last year when a place opened in sydney offering free dyno run for any vw's... i almost went down... ahh well.

When new the GLD delivered 37kW @ 5000rpm and 82Nm @ 3000rpm

Wouldn't like to risk 5000rpm in either of mine

Is there a dyno in Aus that handle that sort of power?

Ok then... to reiterate what was lost due to the forum's server crash,

I was saying how i found this really cool paper which was written by two of the design team of the VW 1.5 diesel engine, presented to the INternational Automotive engineering congress in 1977.
One of the authors is Peter Hofbauer, who is a world genius in diesel engineering technology.

It's a riveting read for all those diesel freaks out there, and interesting still for petrolers as well.

I had posted it to the interetsing articles forum, but i'm too lazy, so i'll do that later.

ANyone on dialup, it's a 19meg file, so if your internet is super super slow, i could post a cd... Or you could visit a friend who has broadband.

Fantastic stuff

given me a lot of ideas, not least of which is maybe trying to use a petrol cam in a diesel head to get more power - there would be the whole rough idle bizzo but i dont mind.... that kind of mod could yeild serious performance increase potentially!

im showing alot of noobness here... but wouldnt it be in preference to the power output of a petrol and not work well with the low revving nature of the diesel?
