Eddy - All the uleah's race on the M1 or suburban streets with lots of obsticals that rip cars apart like a can opener - fully sik lol

So you normally get at least 5 runs on a wednesday night... or you did last time I was out there

Dave

you can't miss it mate, when you are about ~5mins from Willowbank just keep looking to the right and you will see it. its along the long straight one-lane-each-way section of road and its surrounded by paddocks so if you drive straight past it you are struggling. :D

Trez come and have a run.
I would love to have a run but not until the new front brake rotors, pads and fluids go in. I'd hate to fly past the quarter mile line and all of a sudden have the brake pedal go through to the floor. We'll see how I go, I don't finish work until five either but I would like to come out and watch.
Cheers,
Trent

It's because they heard the Polo's are going and can't face being beaten by a Polo.

Well heres my best result

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/08/ea7498a1-1.jpg

The left column, Its a 15.6 which to be honest once again im not entirely happy with. IM mot just nailing the launch like i know i should. Really annoys me. Anyway i think practice will be the key.

And now Jasons result

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/08/26838588-1.jpg

He was over the moon with the 14.3

So please let me know what you think. (you to bug_racer)

Best I could manage was two wheelspinning 16 flats with an 87mph trap speed... It's amazing how much time you loose on the start!!!

Would be a good bracket racer though as the results are repeatable :nana:

Funny, it felt a lot faster than 16s though :(

Nice one boys.

Jas if you nailed a 2.1 60' you would probably hit 13's. :)

Shane since you aren't chipped you should be getting better 60's which will slash a lot off your ET. In my old car I used pull 14.8 at 96mph with 2.3 and 2.2 60's. I pulled out 2 runs in a row with 2.0 60's giving me a 14.0 and 13.9 @ 100. It's all in the launch.

jasn78

Flaps i did for the 14.3 run

my runs where
14.6 1st ever run so i was really happy there
14.8 launch not as good
15.1 well yeah wheelspin
14.37 :) :) :) 30psi didnt even turn traction off lol no1 staged with me so when i went into stage it just went and i thinking oh **** im going to stuff this up but felt smooth.
14.7 more wheelspin got beat by an original mazda 626 (mind u did have an mx6 engine in it)

btw thanks to Jon and Trent for keeping me grounded by adding an extra second to my last 2 runs when i asked them :)

Jason, Maybe leaving the traction control on is the secret!

Jason, Maybe leaving the traction control on is the secret!

i've always thought i've had much better launches with ESP off but i do remember a therad a while ago with a couple of guys doing 0-100km/h testing with and without ESP on. they both came up with the same results saying that ESP on gets a quicker run through. i just find it hard to understand with the engine cut-out, it seems like it limps for ages :?. but yeah, wheelspin is a killer.

i wish i could have made it, my tyres i have on at the moment are nuts and i get no wheelspin at all from a solid launch.

DaveMack
07-08-2008, 11:20 AM
Damn! Wish I'd made it out there. Eddy and I did 'virtual' Vagcom runs a few months back where mine read 14.3 (with 3 ppl on board) and Eddy's 13.8 ... but it's not the same as the real thing. Maybe next time. Congrats to Jason for your time, Mate.

Dave

Sharkie

I get wheelspin even with ESP on. I believe the ESP ECU does not completely understand a chipped car's performance. Therefore the ESP's 1st attempt at controlling the situation normally results in only a mild cut in power, as the wheels then continue to spin it then proceeds to cut power further.

The trick to a launch with ESP on, is to lift slightly upon the 1st attempt by the ESP and then immediatly afterwards floor it again. This results in minimal wheelspin and the quickest start.

ESP off results in way too much wheelspin unless the throttle is modulated very carefully and a quick start can be achieved but results over 5 runs are normally all over the place.

Couldnt agree more mate. I know my launches suck, not sure why though. My launch tecnique is always the same. Which in previous cars always worked a treat. It was crap i only got 4 runs in though. Never before had i had so little. Anyway, ill have to go back and have another go soon. Its annoying me. :D
