Hey guys, Need your help here again....I need to feel assured about something... I saw a red polo the other day in the city so I beeped at him and he beeped back. By doing this I noticed the red polo had a much baseier tune to it when compared to mine. Mine sounds more of a higher pitch then a lower...kind of gay actually! people don’t take you seriously enough when you beep the hell out of them....anyways took the car to VW Essendon for a service and I mentioned the horn problem they said they will check it out... anyways after checking it they said there was no fault detected it seems to be working fine.... and, to take it back another time if I’m still not happy with it....I think they didn’t check it cos they where to busy or whatever...so what are your theories on this? Does yours have a high or low pitch sound?

Join the club mate, the MK3 golf horn also has an incredibly squeaky high pitched quality to it. Its a pretty sissy horn if you ask me. I'm guessing you could probably swap it with a Passat horn, they're much beefier in my opinion and is something I intend to have a go at in the near future.

Mine plays "Colonel Bogie". I'm thinking of changing it to the theme from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" :moonie:

Mine's great. A guy gave cut me off on a roundabout, I beeped the horn and he waved a sorry out the window. I gave him the finger anyway, cos he saw me coming, just didn't stop.

It should play "I've got a bunch of coconuts" instead
In all seriousness my car has an incredibly girly horn, I can't have been the first person to notice this.
Apparantly Sharkie's FMICs are being packaged with new air horns as a special deal. The horns can be programed to play a number of themes, but the clincher is that it includes the "Dukes of Hazards - General Lee" horn theme. I guess Sharkie can name his price now, he'll be swamped :wasntme:
here they are, I've ordered mine, ...group buy maybe???

Did anyone have any luck swapping out their horn with a Passat?
What model Passat do you need?
Getting a bit tried hitting the horn and looking around for the 13 year school boy fighting with a cat. :brutal:

Pretty happy with the stock horn - very German-car sounding. I had a Stebel Nautilus air horn from the old car (designed for motorbike use so its self-contained in one unit, no loose hoses and very compact but VERY loud) - I find myself not wanting to put it in even though it's an easy fit.
What I do want to do though, and I'll probably never get around to, is to rewire the horn so that it works without the ignition key like a Japanese/Aussie car (suppose I have to beep someone I'm waiting for while parked).
Better still, old Euro cars had the town and country horn option that switches between a loud airhorn for the open road and a soft one for urban use, if only I could find a stock-looking switch for it.

So from what I can gather it appears that the earlier GTIs came with the Vienna Boys Choir version of the horn and latter models are fitted with something more appropriate for wearing a GTI badge.
I have a 2006 model GTI so looks like MR Spareparts man at the local dealer will be getting a visit from me to look through the parts catalogue.
Polo has a high tone and low tone, very common for one to fail, when one fails they sound terrible.
