I've gone to the MotoGP & Superbikes a few times & I would stay well away from Phillip Isl. & the highway leading to it over the GP weekend.
It is jam packed with nutters on bike's all the way. It's absolutely madness in a car.
Likely we used to go down in my ute & everyone stayed well clear of it. Especially with a massive 5 post bullbar!

24th is the yarra BBQ meet up, we still havent decided on where to cruise....

so here's the plan, we get to the yarra on the 24th (final place undecided yet) have a BBQ aroun 12ish. then go for a cruise somewhere. how does that sound.

I hate it when people throw a spanner in the works but hows about BBQ at maroondah dam. There is a huge bbq area & kiosk there from memory. And then its at the foot of the black spur for those wanting to stretch their cars legs? Perhaps not this time round tho? maybe even keep it in mind for a future cruise. feel free to tell me to shut up tho. just thinking out loud

I still think its easier if everyone brings their own food, some might have specific food requirements/allergies etc...
Or everyone give me money and I can invest it some of the best meat in town (we have good butchers this side of town) :)
Someone else has to bring the drink though...

Id say a little earlier than that. I know its painful cos its a sunday but by the time u get there set up with the possibility of having to use a wood fire it may start getting late in the day. Id say meet at 9 depart at 9:30. Youre gonna try and cross the city to get onto the eastern fwy yeah? the sunday drivers will be out and about the later u go! :P

but yeah. Id say getting to the dam and being setup there by lunch time would be the aim?

Tim do you want to do that?

Tim

there isnt much of a route.
get onto the eastern fwy > get off at chingvale rd > turn left onto maroondah hwy > continue down until just past healesville and you will see a turnoff on your left as u start to climb the hill.

as far as a route for a cruise after lunch. just continue down the maroondah hwy to the black spur. and then well.. how far do u wanna go?! Marysville is a nice little spot i think. there is a nice walk there down the stairs to stephensons falls. or there are a couple cafes and stuff if people wanna get a coffee? u guys tell me what u wanna do. i could ramble for hours :P

No dates are set in concrete yet so ill try and organise around this event. But yeah hopefully I can make it. Happy to input with ideas either way.

with any cruise its always best to stick within your and your cars limits. Heros often end up in trouble. If you feel youre holding someone up its best to pull aside and let them thru. but yeah limit on the black spur is still 100 i think which is plenty fast enuf.

Tim

it should be a bit of a no brainer really. Just cruise down the eastern fwy then onto the maroondah hwy and follow that just past healesville. Same with out to marysville. There is only one road out there with 1 turnoff that is pretty well sign posted.

perhaps a new official cruise thread that lists the details of the day in the first post instead of it getting lost in a thread. This thread was more started out as a suggestion and has rambled on a bit. Wherever the final details end up. Could put a final route there. eg: start here. turn here. next left at. blah blah blah. There really shouldnt be much detail needed in it.

I just checked out the vicstreetscene website & it looks like fun. Any & all cars welcome. There last offical cruise had 180+ cars! awesome stuff with maps, stickers, giveway prizes etc.
There mods must do alot of planning with sponsers the lot!

yeh golfworxs i go on them a fair bit, I couldn't go to the last one cause my g'box blew on the way to it lol, my brother went in his audi tho, I went to the one before that. They don;t tell you where to go till you get there (dunno why), but the maps are really detailed. The only reason there full of commodores is because the commodore cruise club website shut down and linked there site to vicstreetscene. the next one is on the 30th i think, a saturday night.
