Just wondering out there if anyone knows of somewhere you can get some decent seat covers to suit the captains chairs? Looked around town but to know avail:frown:

Hi Tapsy,

Let me know if you find anything, as I wouldn't mind a set myself. This came up on 'The Brickyard' as well, and a couple of people said the factory units weren't bad (if a little dull) and not that expensive. Mine is going in for service next week, so I'll check if they're available out here.

I asked VW in Coffs Harbour and they said there was nothing available through VW. So I have cheap ones from BigW and at the sides I just stretch the material down leaving it arched over the arm hinge, not ideal but a cheap solution. I then bought long toddler socks and pulled them back onto the armrests. Not a perfect match, but keeps the dirt off.

I'll be watching in case a good product becomes available in Australia.

I tried to get Julia to cut up the sides, fold a little hem back & sew.

I'm still waiting.

We just bought any nice cover that would fit, then made a cut in the side to clear the armrest. It may not look fantastic, but I only want the covers to protect between car shows. :-)

If you like canvas - Black Duck do them, as do Ruffnuts. Both are "mining grade".

I prefer the Black Duck - great for a work vehicle, may be a little too drab for a "show" car  They are pricey though...

I am looking at getting a seat cover set from the UK. Recommended on the Brickyard and looks good judging from the photos. The vendor needs to confirm freight and then I'll be off :driver:

Cheers, MM

PS I'm not all that keen on the VW factory seats. A bit too slabby for my liking. I'd rather a pair of buckets out of a GTI even with the inconvenience of the high thigh bolsters.

canvas may be a bit uncomfortable, got some quotes on sheepskin  they are around $600+ a set, but found a place that do custom covers with a choice of fabric at arount $180 a pair (or row), going to check that out this week, and let you know what i think. :driver:

PS We also got some VW rubber floor mats that are great 'cause the beach has a grey carpet that would not take 5 minutes to get dirty, they cost $150 with a centre mat as well, and fit very well except they don't cover the wheel arc part.

Canvas is definitely not uncomfortable....even in the summertime. My T4 has had Candy Canvas seat covers fitted since 2002 and they are excellent in terms of comfort and durability. www.candycanvas.com.au These lads are at Poorooka and are great to deal with - many choices in colours too

The Black Duck covers were fitted to a number of our work utes and they are well made, tough as and comfortable especially in summertime (even wearing shorts). Only downside perhaps is their looks which work well with white Toyota & beige interior but not exactly complimentary with Euro chic....so you'll be OK if it is a Transporter but possibly not with a Multivan.

Then I'd be looking at the Black Duck versions http://www.black-duck.com.au/ which range from $350 to $390 pr for the T5

Not sure how the breakaway works for airbag fitted seats....so not sure how you'd get someone to do it.

Places like Supercheap do custom seat covers. Mine were from Pep Parts in Newcastle. They are almost 5 years old next month and still look great. They would do T5's, no problem ....

Heeyy found some good seat covers made for the captains chairs with sep headrest and armrest in a range of fabrics and colours,

http://www.ilanas.com.au/custom.html

i like the venice in charcoal @ $160 for the pair.

my question is, is the captains chair in the T5 the same as the T4? as they have a diagram which looks the same with a 2004 date. with twin arm rests.

They do not have a pattern for the Kombi Beach rear seat, I need to take the van there unless someone out there has a Beach and do not live far from ABBOTSFORD, VIC. so they could measure up the back with detail to seat belts. The back covers would be about the same @ $160

I may just get the front ones for now though until i can get over to VIC one day :driver:

My Multi has heavy duty vinyl seat covers fitted to all seats. They look to be extremely well made and fitted. I have not seen a tag on them from a manufacturer so I suspect they have been custom made by an motor trimmer. Only bad thing with them is they are a little slippery:) but the spilt drinks/food/vomit...you got to love kids, just wipes right off.

It may be worth going to a trimmer and see what they can make.

Hi

does anyone with a Kombi Beach live near

ILANA Accessories Australia Pty Ltd
20 Hoddle Street, 3067 Abbotsford
Victoria Australia

I would love it if a Kombi owner close by could get the rear seat measured up for seat covers, they did my captians chairs (love em) and can do the back but need measurments to do the job

I cannot find an existing template for them on their site or at the local agent (autobarn)

would be worth a carton of beer!!:drinkbeer::drinkbeer:

Hi Geoff,

I'm not far away. I think my Trakkadu rear seat is the same, or very similar to the Beach, but I'm not 100% sure. It is a 2 seater, with integral belts, on rails, but sits against the LHS rather than the RHS as in the Beach. I have a bit of spare time next week, so let me know if you want to try it.

PS. I hope they wouldn't need to remove it, as I'd not be too keen on that.

they did my front seats and am very happy

You've shown me yours, so I'll show you mine!

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/smallcamerapics91008010-2.jpg

Looks similar, just set for LHS rather than RHS. Yours does sit on 3 rails though, while mine is on 2 (hidden by carpet). I have my headrests removed as I always have the seat in the 'bed' position. Do you need these included in the covers?

You could take some measurements to be more sure; seat base 1130mm x 500mm. Backrest is 600mm high.

What did you pay for the front covers?

yours looks as good as mine:biggrin:

same measurements, i would be confident it is the same seat
(i think mine only runs on the two rails?)

I paid $140 thru autobarn although when i rang illana they quoted $150
the price included two 'captains chairs' seat covers, arm rests and head rests, they quoted that the rear would be the same price.
they are the tie up type so were a bit of mucking around to get them on ok so the seats still swivel.

I'm happy if you could get the seat measured up to include the head rests and holes for the seatbelts and centre. no big rush:)

if you can get them to take the measurements and a contact person so they know what i am talking about i can order from here as i want the same style material as the front. (cant remember as my invoice is at work):driver::driver:

Thank you for putting me onto ILANA. They were very helpful and even returned to work after their Xmas lunch on Xmas eve to measure all of the seats. I also had the rear bed cushions covered so they now have all of the T5 Kombi Beach measurements (Captains chairs, Middle Seat and side and rear cushions.
I received my seat covers in the mail and they fit beautifully.
I have two small children and saltwater, orange juice, choc milk etc would destroy the material seats in the T5 Kombi Beach if not covered.

They do a great job! never thought of doing the cushions:duh:
we don't have the side cushion as we have the fridge there but hey i might ring them and see how much to get the rear cushion done.

I use a dog carrier that hooks up on the head rests, that i keep the latex mattress rolled up in and it stops it falling between the seat and platform (as i have the seat set forward a bit)

The rear cushion also needed covering because it was getting stained. The kids would snack and drink in the back while watching a film before going to sleep at night. I also think my son dribbles from his mouth when he sleeps deeply ????

I must warn you that the rear cushion covers were made a bit loose compared to the snug fitting seat covers. I kept the original VW covers on inside the new vinyl covers. You might want to remeasure the cushion thickness and let them know you would like the rear cover to be snug.

I quickly flicked through this thread and didn't see any mention of Wet Okole (Sorry if I missed it and somebody has already mentioned them). We had Wet Okole seat covers on our '03 (think that's a T4??) and absolutely loved them. They are pretty $$y but are snug-fitting neoprene. Worth contacting them to see if they do T5s. www.wetokole.com (out of Hawaii).

See ya.

I have just picked up some front seat covers (generic pattern) from The Wet Seat.

Whilst I was there they measured up the rear bench & head rests. I'll be picking the made to measure covers in a fortnight.

I'll post some photos once I've got them on.

BTW - A forum member with a Multivan has previously purchased some covers from them. They already had the patterns for the Captain's seat arm rests.

I'm curious to see how they hold up and whether they end up smelling like an old wettie left in the sun :P

Also how warm do they get on a hot day. Is it like a wettie under your bum and needing to push up the a/c. Hopefully when it gets cold the heated setas will still work and we won't have to pee in the wetsuit to stay warm:eek:

The "Wet Seat" covers are on the captain seats and the rear bench/bed. I have not noticed them getting any warmer than a normal seat cover. I'll park in the sun and see if I can get them hot :)

Fit of the covers is good with reliefs for the seat air bags. They supplied covers for the arm rests with cut outs for the arm adjuster wheel. I ordered tailored head rest covers - worth the extra as they look heaps better than the generic items.

The only improvement would have been if the covers extended all around the back of the front seats like they do for the bench/bed seat.

I've taken my arm rests off as I got fed up corking my thigh every time I walked from the cab to the cargo bay.

So if you want "Wet Seat" covers give them a call as they have Multivan and Kombi Beach patterns on file now.

Reviving an old thread - I can report that the Wet Seat covers have been wearing well.

I have noticed that my back does get slightly warmer due to the material but it is hardly noticeable. I go cycling and kayaking and find the seat covers comfy after the van has been sitting out in the open all day.

For all round durability I'd most likely favour canvas next time around. Not for everyone I know, but it is hard to beat Black Duck...

BTW - I have a "Wet Seat" seat cover to suit a Kombi Beach bench/bed. Any interest please PM.

@shogun2 - if you don't mind the "mine site" look, you could order some Black Duck covers. They cover the rear of the seat.

I've ordered Black Duck covers as I want to protect the back of the seats. My kitchen module is right behind the passenger seat, and my esky behind the drivers seat.

BTW - You can save a lot by ordering through a Black Duck agent as opposed to buying direct.

The Black Duck seat covers arrived today.

Typical Black Duck quality that I've been familiar with for over a decade on various mine sites.

Easy fitting secured with broad velcro straps. Map pockets fitted behind both seats.

I'm a very happy camper! :P

BTW - When I removed my WetSeat covers, I noted that the original seat fabric was unmarked - exactly as the day I fitted the covers. The WetSeat covers go on easier and are more form fitting. That is to be expected due to the different fabric. They'll be in the Classifieds at half price (with the custom bench cover) for anyone after a bargain. ;)
