View Full Version : Bilstein B12 kit
Recently fitted a Bilstein B12 kit (B8 shocks/Bilstein springs). The kit's designed to fit most 9N Polos (including GTI). My understanding is that H&R make the springs to Bilstein specs.
Impressions so far - the ride's as comfortable as stock, has better turn-in and handling ...not harsh, just well balanced damping rates which make the car great to drive, ...something it's never been previously. The car feels much more planted now, obviously it rolls less, but all the wallowing and pitching has gone, and is much more easily placed in corners.
The kit lowers 35ml front/rear - less in the GTI. According to my measurements, approx 25ml lower than stock, and sits 5-7ml lower than Eibach pro-kit springs. Depending on the type of driving you do, the kit (as is) would probably suit most. I'll be replacing the B12 springs with H&R GTI springs (35ml) which should drop the rear another 10ml (see pics below). This is how the kit is sold in Europe, ie choice of springs.
The kit retails for $2000 here. I've raised the possibility of a group buy with the Aust importer, depending on level of interest. Early indications are that a group buy would drop the price significantly (each kit delivered anywhere in Aust).

Don't know if you're interested, but I've found that kit online for 813 EUR delivered for 1 kit (which at current exchange rates = $1338.
I'm actually interested in the PSS9s, but this place doesn't have them listed so I'm enquiring about them.
Here's some of the other kits available (delivered prices)
Bilstein B12 Kit - 813 EUR - $1338
H&R Cup Kit - 618 EUR - $1018
Eibach Pro Kit - 713 EUR - $1174
Eibach Sport Kit - 618 RU - $1018
They also have good prices on coilovers. Other brands include KW, Weitec

You can get the B12 kits even cheaper in Europe (approx $1000au), but getting them here is the issue :frown: I'm talking approx $1500au landed by the exclusive local importer/distributor (GST included) and backed by a Bilstein 100,000klm warranty. If ppl want PSS9s or other kits/options, then there's no reason why we couldn't vary the order in a group buy.

Are those prices including import taxes? If not then you need to add about 10% duty and then 10% GST on top of those prices unless u know a good drug smuggler that can bring them in :D

Can you get a price for the PSS9s in the group buy (and out). I can't get a response :( That's why I'm looking OS.

No but I think it still had 17% VAT on it. So possibly around the same price.
OK I'm onto it, ...but don't anyone ever complain again that they can't/won't fit billies bc they're too exy

I'll probably say that for the PSS9s :duh:
B12 kit (springs now replaced with H&R GTI springs). The front sits similar to how the B12 kit springs did, although the rear is now lower. Totally amazed by how the car can sit so low yet still ride so comfortable. The steering has really come alive now, and handling has improved yet again.
Note: if anyone is interested in the combo below (B8 shocks/H&R GTI springs), PM me as I'm currently negotiating a group buy.

What price is the group buy at?
I'm attempting to get postage costs from a site I found that sells them for about AU$765+postage, which should come to well under $1k so no import taxes.

Still to confirm, but the more kits, the better the price. Can also order any Bilstein and H&R kit and/or combos, eg shocks, springs, PSS9, Cup kits etc ..whatever.
Ordering from OS is an option - if you can get them under 1k. Problem is, if things go wrong down the track, who do you go to for warranty? By going through the local importer/distributor, they can arrange fitting and you're also getting a 5yr 100,000klm warranty.

If you can get ballpark figures for B12s (whatever combo you recommend), B14s and B16s I may be able to decide :)

GT3 are you from Melbourne?
The kits can be delivered anywhere in Aust at no additional cost, makes no difference to the importer/distributor. FYI, here's some info on Bilstein and H&R springs.

Well if the group buy goes ahead it'll be the B12 kit, some B8 Sprints and some B6 Sports for me. Does that help with numbers?
Budget up to $350 to have the complete kit fitted.
The discount off RRP is as follows: H&R GTI springs (15%), B12 kit (13%), B8 shocks/H&R GTI springs combo (22%), PSS coilovers (17%) and PSS9 coilovers (20%).
If interested, I will need to be notified by Monday, 11 August 2008, or you'll miss this shipment and the special discount rate.
Just a reminder that I'll need to know by today whether ppl are in the group buy or not - thanks.
