I was wondering are you guys(apr tuned, or other chips) getting better fuel economy, like we've been told we should? Cause i find it hasn't made much of a difference(sometimes much worse when i let my beast open up:biggrin::biggrin:).
The best i've managed to get on one full tank is 510km(the worst about 390km).

mate you have a K04 :P
i worked for volkspower and they reckon a 10% saving and i reckon its croc. maybe on the first mkIVs made...but not the newer ones...the software would have been ironed out...

Looks like that's on his wish list.

you will get better economy if you drive at the same speed as you did before flash - less throttle same for same power/speed.... but of course thats not why you chip it:driver:

Wow, I'd love to get 510km out of a tank. The best I've got would be just over 400km.
Mine is usually 11L/100km. It used to be around 11.8L/100km before chip, but not as much fun either :)

I second that I normally only get 300km when the fuel light comes on. :frown:
My average fuel consumtion was about 12L/100km before the chip but it's about 11.5L/100km now.
I do drive a bit to much with my right foot though :driver:
You guys have a heavy right foot. My average (according to the car) is around 8L/100kms. I wouldnt say I drive like a grandma/Sunday driver but I dont go full throttle off every takeoff either.
Just to clarify I do have a GTI with APR chip.

:?
I was on the highway today, average over the trip was 7.2L using cruise control in 5th at 100-110.
How can you average 8L/100km, do you never drive in traffic?

Even in traffic the VR with a bigger motor and a hell of a lot of mods mechanical wise I was averaging 11.5 I don't understand how you Polo blokes are getting that something not right!

I dont usually drive in bumper to bumper traffic but I do live in Sydney and unless you drive between about 7pm and 5 am you will get traffic. I only use the freeways maybe once a week.
So you could say I drive my car in "normal" conditions. I dont understand how you guys avarage over 10L/100kms. :???:

I'm getting around 8.5 to 9 litres in my Polo GTI standard non-chipped. Got ~7.2 on the highway a few weeks ago on a run of around 500k. 100-120kmh
That's in traffic most of the time with mine. I tend not to fang it too much in traffic, in fact I try to keep it economical when there's no room to fang it. But when there is :driver: :nana: :)

I do around 70kms a day. Half of that is usually 60-80km/h with the occasional traffic light. The rest is bumper to bumper with almost every traffic light a few times (thanks QLD government).
For the first half of the journey it's around 12.5L/100k and that comes down to low 11s by the time I get home. (Or the 8.5-9.5 until I hit the traffic on the way to work).

i got it down to 6.1L/100km cruising at 80kph on windsor road last week. usually get around 8L/100km around the suburbs. but thats taking it easy

I did 330km's yesterday on a fang down south with some other guys and I used 6.5L.

Over a tank of fuel I average 9-10L per 100km - thats mostly driving in peak hour with some spirited driving :)
Best I have averaged on a trip was 6.9l per 100km - thats driving home from the city for 30km on a weeknight around midnight, about half of it on the m4.
The fuel consumption might be affected by choice of gears when cruising. If I am cruising at any speed 65-70km/h or above it is in fifth gear. Below that at most speed limits its in fourth.

Fill up at 450km every time, when light on... doesn't matter hard or wussy driving... and its take 38-39L of BP... Oh and its stock

As Clarkson in the first episode of season 11 denoted - it's all about how you drive! Furthermore, if you're constantly stuck in traffic then that too also doesnt help your quest in saving more fuel. I sincerely hope there arent people filling up their Pogo's with Regular Unleaded or even E10 (god forbid). Fuel also makes a significant difference to how far a car can run.
My car lives off a diet of Shell V-Power perminantly. Since I've owned it, it's only seem BP-Ultimate twice, as there werent any other quality servo's around. Furthermore, I have found that I get less milage out of a full tank of BP Ultimate compared to Shell V-Power. Does anyone have similar or difference findings regarding fuel's?
Jon who has the APR chip still gets about 500km's out of a tank from last I heard, so I personally think it's dependant upon the driver and the type of fuel you put in!

average around 7-8L/100k's. Do a mixture of freeway and stop start.. non chipped. drive it hard occasionally but mostly not as i dont need to.
getting the apr test program done soon (maybe this friday) to see how it goes then get it chipped if i like it (and if the missus likes it too).
would think that it wont improve economy but assuming it will make it more driveable down low revs and more fun in higher revs.

I doubt you won't like it :)

The gains will be on highway driving - like with the cruise control on.
Up to 10% on petrol cars - even with a K04 on our car - on highway we got 6.7 l/100 on a Sydney to Brisbane trip where standard we did 6.9 l/100.
Around town, too many variables :driver:

I have now found that the more performance mods I've got the better my cruising fuel consumption is getting.
Got 5.7l/100km to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane on Saturday, 120 indicated in 100 zones and 130 indicated in 110 zones. Climbed to 6.2l/100km cruising Caloundra - Maleny - Nambour - Bli-Bli - Maroochy - Caloundra.
And then on Sunday on the way back to Brisbane got 5.8l/100km.
It is now getting as good as a diesel .... ... but with actual performance when you want it ....
EDIT ... BTW according to the computer 120 indicated is 108 so no "real" speeding involved.

Only downside is that the ECU picks up bad habits just cruising and you need to wring its neck afterwards to get it "back" into performance "mode"
Which sort of defeats the purpose of driving for better fuel consumption. :duh:

on highway we got 6.7 l/100 on a Sydney to Brisbane trip where standard we did 6.9 l/100.
I get that same consumption with stock motor doing freeway driving, so if a car is chipped, you can still get stock consumption if you drive it the same.

Thats sounds like me - got it down to 6.2L/100km going to the Sth Coast and average anywhere between 8-9L/100km when driving around the suburbs at a leisurely speed lol

my average (non-chipped) is 7.8l/100km for the past 8000kms. and im a P-plater :P
best was 5.2 from kalamunda to north perth (trying to get lowest possible)

we ended up getting our jetta done a few months ago.... definitely see an improvement in fuel consumption. averages 8L/100k's with a mixture of freeway and local stop/start traffic. am going to gold coast in Feb so will be interesting to see what freeway only driving will get.
we want to do the polo also... but undecided if we are keeping it or upgrading to golf GTI/ R32 in the near future...

Ran down to Thredbo after christmas and spent a few days driving around (Alpine Way to Khankoban, etc) all up 1500km and averaged 5.9 L/100km for the trip ... pretty happy with that, as it's hard to drive the Alpine Way economically ... too much fun to be had :)

Hi all,
thought I'd butt in - on freeways and highways my GTI does down to 6.5L/100kms.... around town given time I average 8L/100km.... and I'm meant to be a crazy psycho driver. What do you people do????? Floor it every 5 seconds????

maybe im just posting the obvious here but with my previous cars (they were very very gutless) i relied on 5th gear to keep half decent speed. though since ive had my gti ive noticed it can do these speeds comfortably in 4th and evan 3rd. however ive noticed in my car (not sure its the same for you guys) to get half decent fuel economy its esential to either a / do alot of highway running or b use 5th gear alot regardless of weather your po po can do it in a lower gear, for instance using 5th to putt around on 70kms/hr yields fantastic fuel economy.
