In an attempt to try to keep these spaces clean and in a manageable order, please post here on this sticky if you are bursting at the seams to tell the world your about to take delivery of your new polo.

The aim of this thread is to try and keep together some of the more commonly asked questions and answers for reference for our newer members.

So tell us what your getting, when your getting it and why you chose it over other cars.

Happy dubbin!

This is a good idea. It was getting a little messy back there.

WHAT: 2008 Polo GTI (Black, Sunroof, Cloth)

WHEN: Sometime next week I should have my baby. I'm seriously going to explode if I don't have it by then. :)

WHY: Came from a 1996 Lancer. Since 2004, I've always wanted a Golf GTI. When the time came for a new car, I checked out the Golf GTI but it was out of my price range. I loved my Lancer, never had a problem and it. So I figure, if I'm happy with it, why change? Started looking at getting the new 2008 Lancer VRX. I was pretty much sold on it, only I wasn't really happy with the size. It's much larger than my 96 one and for my needs, I just didn't need anything that big.

Told a mate of mine the order of things as stated above and he said, "What about a Polo GTI?" -- I'm like, what the heck is a Polo? Seriously, until a couple of months ago, I had no idea. So I check it out and soon discover that everything I loved about the Golf GTI is basically what I want in a Polo GTI. Price difference between the Lancer VRX and Polo GTI was minimal.

You know when you've got that idea in your head. "Someday, I'll own my dream car." For me, that was the Golf GTI. But until I discovered the Polo GTI, I had no idea that that day would be sometime next week!!! That's why I'm so out of my mind excited about it.

Howdy everyone, I've been lurking on this forum for sometime now. I've learnt so much from all the useful info posted about the polo gti.

WHAT: 2007 polo gti (red, 16000k, cloth)

WHEN: about a week ago

WHY: up to about 3 months ago i didn't even know what a polo gti was, until
i did some research about the next car that i was going to buy. The
polo gti was just in the right price range and it also had alot of
modding potential.

Needless to say I'm so ecstatic about my baby:biggrin::biggrin:.
Within the last week I've already had the APR flash and upgraded her shoe size to 18's. Wow the APR flash certainly does live up to its' hype :cool46::biggrin:. I'm still finding it hard to wipe the grin off my face.

Hopefully I'll have some pics of baby up soon.

Hi all, I'm another one of the lurkers who've been around here the last few weeks sucking up all the info I could for my purchase. This forum's been such a huge help!

WHAT: 2006 Polo GTI - 11,000km on the clock, Black - stock everything (so far!) in Brisbane, QLD

WHEN: LAST MONDAY YAY!

WHY: Needed a car, wanted something decent but fun as well as cheap. First "real" decent car really - and I love fast little hatches.

It's been such a fun week with my new friend! Been driving round every night and getting a feel for the gearbox. Went up to Mt Tambourine today for a nice windy daytrip and fast descent. :) Loving every moment of it and couldn't be happier with the car!

WHAT: 2008 POLO GTI BLACK MAGIC

WHEN: TODAY!!! after sitting on this forum for quite a while when i first grew interest in this car i finally sealed the deal!

just wondering if anyone could help me out here:

Before you receive the car does anyone have the sheet telling you the specs and colour of your car?

I was just wondering what the "trim" section meant and what you all had written underneath this section.

Thanks for your help!

Hey folks... I've just got myself a brand spankers 2008 Volkswagen Polo 1.9 TDI in Flash Red. Its got 600km on it.

Just stepped out of a 2001 RenaultSport Clio 172 and boy is it different! Despite not being nearly as quick, the "shove," you get from the TDI is... well... unbelievable, its bigger then the RS Clio's ever was.

Well thought i may aswell post something here since the finacial side of me getting the GTI is all good now.

What: Polo GTI (Black or Silver, New or Used im unsure still :???:)

When: Once the cash clears in my account :driver:

Why: After driving V8's for the past 12 years or so and trying to keep 2 of them on the road with the current fuel prices going the way they are i thought i'd break the habit and look into getting something new with all the safety features of today with good fuel ecconomy (in comparison) and something that still is modable enough to keep me happy. Was there really any other choice than the Polo GTI in the same price range :biggrin:

WHAT: 2008 Polo GTI (Silver, Sunroof)

WHEN: Nearly a month ago.

WHY: Have owned an MX-5 for 9 years and everything they say about the 5 is all true, the car really does become an extention of your limbs with handling so sharp and so absolutely controllable and that slick short throw gear box is possibly a world best. Unfortunately everything else they say about the 5 is also true - lack of power, near nonexistent practicality, unwanted attention from ricers and hoons (not every road has corners),

Once I thought I'd keep the car for life but reality sets in and I need something practical which would mean I need to find a compromise somewhere. At first I thought the logical step from the MX-5 would be a Clio Sport 182 Cup which also offers amazing handling and has a cracker of an engine (the thing just revs its head of if you let it), and the build quality isn't even as bad as what some have made it out to be (but still far from VAG's league). Test drove a few and even got as close as $500 to buy one but lost out.

I always knew about the Polo GTI and even have heard/read that you could chip it to get more power but was initially dismissive because the reviews pan its handling and its weight (MX-5 and Clio both weigh the same and are 100kg lighter but really 1200kg isn't all that heavy for any car). So test drove one during last month's clearance - yes it doesn't handle quite as well as the Clio (let alone the 5) but realistically in every day situation you won't be going 8/10ths all the time, it does however feel disconnected compared to the Renault and the Mazda - like it's a competent handling car but it seems as if it's doing all the work for you and you're just coming along for the ride.

However a lot of other things won me over - that lazy torque available from low down, having driven it for a month, the greatest difference I felt is on the highway, I won't have to think about whether to overtaking someone which in the MX-5 meant dropping a gear (admittedly a fun thing to do) then flooring it whereas in the Pog, I'd just put the foot down - in this sense it feels like a scaled down version of dad's XR6T with available grunt nearly anywhere in the range.

Then of course there's the legendary quality - you can see where the extra weight's gone to, everything feels solid and like it'll last for life - and the attention to detail - reading through the handbook, you get the sense they've thought everything through that's just like any German product.

I've even grown to like the looks of it - it might have been designed by the guy who did the new Alfa's but there's nothing passionate about the look of the car, just really sober and rational and even the little highlights are subtle. In silver it just blends in (even though I'll have the wheels powdercoated charcoal). Perfect for a sleeper car.

Then there's the price - in the end I couldn't justify paying nearly the same money for a 3 year old French car which I know will depreciate to comical levels when i could get a car of such good value, brand new. The car I actually ended up buying is the demo I drove - just got to the dealership the week before and they made a bungle which effectively meant I got a free sunroof. Insurance is cheap (not even $900) as well

So yes I didn't end up buying a car with what I initially thought were "must-have" attributes ie pin-sharp handling and a sense of rawness from years spent driving the MX-5. But what I got is the best compromise by far with what I actually NEED.... I'm still laughing.

Think I might have just broken a few records in this forum for the most long-winded way of saying "I like my Pog" and for not having a life on a Friday night.

WHAT: 2007 Polo GTI Silver

WHEN: Yesterday.

WHY: Was driving a 05 XR6 and with the cost of fuel and living increasing so much I was spending $95 a week to get to work.

Wanted to get into another turbo and my girlfriend wanted a smaller car so this fit the bill perfectly.

My little pogo is standard for now but I would like to know what mods others have done that haven't voided the factory warranty. Even in standard form I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face :)

You should get what you signed for in the contract. If it's different then they are breaching the contract.

Stealers are shifty p..cks. When I signed up for mine many moons ago in Feb 06 I agreed on a black one. The next day they called me to tell me it will be an extra months wait but if I wanted silver I could have it on the original 2 months. I said I'd wait for black since its the best and it arrived in 2 months anyway...

Someone must have cancelled their order for a silver one so they tried to palm it off to me by using the threat of an extra months wait.:monkeypiss:

Hi All,
just signed the contract for a brand new GTI. Colour is red and everything is standard. $28,500 drive-away which I thought was ok. I walked in and offered to sign up for 28,500 and the guy said 'umm...ok' and i thought 'damn, should have gone lower'.
Anyway, should be a nice little car, very fun to drive on the test drive i took it on, craps all over my previous cars in terms of handling dynamics. Now I have to try and keep the wallet in the pocket for a while. I am well aquainted with the 'mod-bug', as in past years when owning an SS commodore certain forums similar to this one have kept me wanting more and more and more :duh:

At the moment im booking it in for paint + leather protection as well as a window tint to keep the harsh northern QLD sun out!.

Took delivery of my new Polo on Wednesday. Unfortunately not a GTI (need an auto :frown: until my leg/foot recovers) but a nice red Pacific with safety-pack now lives at my place. Tempted to add GTI body work but as my wife pointed out - much too ricey!

Front & rear bar and skirts are different too.

Also, (and I could very well be wrong) but I was under the impression that our front/rear quarter panels have more flare over the arches... which is why they offer the wheel arch flares for every Polo except the GTI.

i guess what people consider "flares" is a matter of opinion.

Awww yeah!!!! Top day yesterday....

Dropped off my 86 Corolla at my mechanics in Highpoint for a roadworthy & minor fixes, ready to sell (practically give) to my nephew for his first car.

Caught some public transport  (first time in ages) to Moonee Ponds to get the bank cheque, more public transport to South Yarra Volkswagen, where my beast was waiting.

1 minor fix - the in dash cup holder got jammed when the dealer was showing it to me....they replaced it on the spot, in 15 minutes, & that was it. Nice service. & thanks to the guys who recommended Peter. He comes across as a really nice guy - told me he'd rather sell a bargain & let word of mouth bring in more business than trying to sell every car at a higher price. Dunno if mine's a true bargain (i'm not the most experienced negotiator when it comes to these things, but both parties came out happy with the deal, so alls good;

Black Magic
Rubber floor mats (x4) (kept carpets too)
Cargo net
Full tank BP Ultimate

All up, just under $26k drive away.

Then took her for a drive down Chapel St, on my way to a lap around Albert Park (photos in pic thread).

Next stop was Tint-a-car in Nth Melb (thanks to those recommending this place!). ~2 hours & $295 later, I had my Midnight Express tint.

So far, so fun!

I wanted a cleaner one then Lee's, it had too many stone chips and dints for my taste. I ended up picking up one in Canberra privately, after tripping to Sydney the last 3 weekends :p I wanted the Silver one in paddington but it sold 10 mins before I rang back to say i'd take it.

No mods planned for mine as its on a salary package. Maybe after the lease is up and I buy it out....

Signed up for a brand new Polo GTI in silver yesterday, for the grand sum of $23,888 :)

For the price I couldn't say no, considering most demo's were selling for more than that, and the Golf GTI's (which I initially really wanted) were still pushing $30k for ones with no warranty left and upwards of 70,000km.

I get it on November 4, and can't wait!! I've never had a car younger than 15 years old, let along a brand spanker, so am very excited!

First mods will be window tint and some nice matt black mesh rims with a red stripe around the edge, a slight lowering, and just minor mods for now. ECU flash etc will come eventually :)

better than the alternative visit in a week when it's not working. Plus this time next week you'll have forgotten all about it as you diving from one corner to the next.

I had a lady hit my car on saturday:frown: on the way to Mike Webbers performance. Fortunately she just clipped me, so will be a new rim, some lower quarter panel damage and very likely the hub assembly as it now has a slight hum to it. She simply didn't see me, but minimal damage and she was very apologetic, accepted complete blame so will get it fixed and move on. My newest car, and the only time I've had to swap insurance details :brutal:

oh well, could have been a lot worse so no sour grapes - it happens.

So the modifications will be put off for a few weeks till I know the cars sweet.

I went out to look at a new Polo GTI last night and ended up buying a Shadow Blue 2006 GTI instead! As much as I liked the DSG version, the old school feel of the 9N3 suited me - plus it was half the price even with the warranty. Needs a good detail and service, which the dealer will do, and I hope to get it tomorrow - Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to me!
Also, being a bit older I won't feel so bad if I start to modify it a bit. I won't do much (tune and tyres probably) as I have a brilliant weekend/track car already. This is going to be my daily driver.

Sup guys,

Took delivery a week or so ago of my new (but not brand new) 9N3 Polo 2.0. Got it on auction for a steal. It has a few bumps and bruises but I'll be sorting it out soon. Mechanically she's very sound. Had to "downgrade" a touch from my MKV GTi as I'm getting married soon and as most of the married guys know, the ride with the highest running costs is a wife. lol

I'm planning a few mods for it and will post some pics once she's all good to go.

Look forward to learning a lot about these little cars as I'm complete new to them.

It was one of the cars you recommended Kaanage, thanks mate! We got it with a novated lease - took some time.....

THe car is great. Mint condition in every way and wonderful to drive. I love it! We're still figuring out how everything works, its a bit of a technological leap for us. One problem is that everyone at work says "why didnt you get a falcon/commodore"? Too many reasons....

SO chipping will make a big difference? I was thinking that long term it would get some mild upgrades. I think i'd stop short of replacing the turbo though. The Mk1 on the other hand, well I suspect that it will be quite fast ultimately. DOnt know if our Red Pog will be tuned to the same degree.

If you want to check the difference between remaps vs stock, we can meet up and you can try my car vs your girlfriend's - just PM me.
I have 3 different remaps if you really want to see what sort of variation in performance you can have in an otherwise stock engine.
