Aggressive treads are always a welcomed option. How much did you pay per quarter Dave if you dont mind telling?

OMG I can't take this anymore. I want my car now!

Sorry. Awesome tires. Would love to hear back on how well they perform in the wet.

yeah i saw a post a few weeks ago with these...except they were from Jax in Vic. i'm guessing that i could get them from JAX here on the Goldy. nice looking tyres, will definitely have to look into it as i am in need of new tyres.

otherwise, i can get a good set of federal's at $100 a corner ($170-$190 RRP).....big decision.

Tyres are the only thing that touches the road (unless u drop it too low :)) Don't skimp just to save money. I had federals twice on my last 2 cars, felt like I was going to die until they were very well worn.

Here's another question which I should throw out. How many k's can these survive under normal wear and tear conditions? I was initially told my Toyo Proxie4's would only survive about 30,000km's but I've done easily 25,000km's on them without them even coming anywhere near halfway on the wear indicator (and I dont normally corner sedately)...

Polo GTI - dont go the Federals over the Marangoni's. You're better off spending the little bit extra to get that extra performance. I was initially going to put Pirelli P6000's on my Polo but they were far too expensive per quarter (and not aggresive enough tread wise), and then opted for the Toyo's after comparing them to the Michelin's Preceeda, and Eagle's new tire (which for the life of me I cant remember).

NEVER SKIMP ON TIRES! They're the only thing between your car and the road.

Great grip in the dry ... hasn't rained yet ... so I can't tell you about wet. I would say firmer sidewall than the Contis (but then ... they'd probably need to be) ... and they've got a bit of a protective lip over the edge of the wheel so (hopefully) my wife won't give the rims any further 'rashes'. :D They're no noisier than the Contis ... probably about the same road noise.

Here's their advertising blurb:

Are you going to any of the DriveGTI days? Mind taking me for a spin if so?

I wouldn't mind these for my next tyre (even though it's about 30,000 kms away)

Yeah I'm going out to Warwick on the 25th ... see you there. :D

I haven't heard anything bad about the Federals so far, and I'm looking at the 595RS-R's for my next tyres, but I will give Marangoni's a look see(I personally have never heard of them until I read a tread about them a while ago and looked them up). I have have a real thing for semi slick R spec tyres though, and can't find many in the 205/45 R16 other than the 595RS-R. The Toyo T-1R is a great tyre too...

Here's some of the research I did before I bought them:

Review of Aus. success of Marangoni:
http://www.marangonityre.co.uk/News_Item.asp?ID=36

Marangoni's partnership is with Bridgestone, not Pirelli ... see article below:
http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/archives/newsjun04.asp

Marangoni Racing Tyre development:
http://www.tyretrade.ie/tyrenews/tynws261.html

And from the Rimini 'My Special Car Exhibition Show' site; the following extract:

MARANGONI TYRE
Marangoni Tyre is the company in the Trento group of the same name, that makes tyres for cars, SUVs and light trucks. Marangoni presents its high-performance Zeta Linea and Mythos tyres, aggressive and high-performing, ideal for tuning. Marangoni is also exhibiting the Osella PA 21 with Honda engine and Marangoni Zeta Linea Racing tyres, with which Simone Faggioli won the 2005 European Mountain Championship.

The tread pattern in the pic on page 3 is the Zeta Linea tyre.

Here's a link to the Marangoni Tyre catalogue:

And from their home site:

Didn't these win a tyre comparison in Wheels or Motor recently ?

I know the F1's won something last year, but faintly remember these from Motor? as well.

At $184 a corner it is quite cheap. Even the Adrenalins are close to $250 a corner.

So you did not decide to competely destroy the contis at Warwick then Dave?

Yeah, Johan ... got another trip south before then and decided to get the new tyres for that. Besides ... wanted to try the new ones out at Warwick. :D

OK ... I've tried them out in the wet now (up the 'goat-track' to Lamington National Park) ... they're easily as good as the Contis in the wet ... felt no slippage or insecurity and braking was no problem. Well pleased. :D

Blitzen, I'm fairly sure you won't find the 595RS in a Australia, have spoken to the importers who may bring some in one day.

I'm picking up the 595RS's in Canberra when I head down there next week. I couldn't get them anywhere in Darwin, but didn't have any real trouble finding them anywhere else. One of the Tyre Powers in SA said they would ship them to my door for $310 each landed, which was a good price, considering their RRP is $300.
