I've found an interesting article about a German magazine testing a Polo GTI at the Nurburgring......
http://www.autobild.de/artikel/nordschleifen-duell-david-gegen-goliath_319094.html
It seems they compared a stock Pogo against a G55 AMG.... In a straight line the G55 absolutely kills the Pogo. 0-200km/h 24.8s v 42.1s...
However around the track the Polo stepped up to the plate....
9min46.2s v 11min27.5s to the Pogo .... j:
Interestingly though a Ford Transit van (stock but slightly lightened) will do it in 10min08s in the hands of a proper driver.......

And it seems a stock DSG Golf MK5 GTI will do it in .... 8min52s....:(
Maybe its time to trade up to a 3dr Mk5 GTI ..... :?:

With the track being 20km long, 54 seconds behind the Golf GTI isn't that bad considering its quicker and has far superior suspension.
Nice find btw.

And lets not forget, Johan ... your Pogo is hardly standard. :D

yeah it's sort of hard to compare my Polo to other cars. you read all these articles on Polo Vs .... and the Polo did this etc. but thats the standard Polo GTI, so to most of us on here that doesn't really mean anything. i would really like to see a chipped Polo GTI have a dust around the Nurburgring or Tsukuba, just so i can get some sort of comparison. but then again, different driver experience and styles....too many discrepancies.

I'd love to take Eddy's little blue beast around the 'Ring' to try it out. (KWs coilovers, all of Guy's hot goodies from his racing Polo, lowered and big fat front sway bar ... sticks to the road and corners considerably faster than mine.) :D

yes they do, but they also increase load on the bearings...but who cares when it looks good ;)

but is the increase on the bearings enough to do some serious damage.....say for just road use?? and track (for this topic)??

Isn't the Ford Van driven by a female course caretaker? I remember seeing a TV show where she beat someone in a 911 using the Transit.

not really, you will just notice that you got throught bearings quicker.
Thn again, every thing wears out quicker when your doing track days

Hoyhoy.
Dave, I didn't know that you thought so much of the handling of the Little Blue Beast.

Yep, Sabine Schmitz (?) took the van around. She drives the M5 ring taxi around the ring all day, everyday

The van thing was on top gear. They ended up taking everything out bar the drivers seat and other essentials. Had a couple of the cars clearing the track for her and they where trying to get it under ten minutes.
Its probably on Youtube
