Just curious.....how often does a Passat need to be serviced? Is it every 10,000? Anyone have an indication on average service cost?

thks for the reply hajb

$380 - ouch is that the average price... front wheel bearing hmmmm. Happy with the service apart from that?? I am a bit anal re the car so will be taking photos including the odo. I'm not paying $380 for someone to damage or thrash it.

Vene - R36 Man... Every 15,000km or 12mths.

3.2 4Motion is 12mths/15000km

Seems a bit light on, but they assure me cars these days are designed to not require more regular servicing.

I change oil every 5000km still (some habits hard to shake).

Sort of makes sense, seeings that cars don't burn oil anymore (unless you own an Alfa!), and you get a warning light / message whenever somehting is up.

What do you guys reckon? Is 12mths too long?

perhaps depends on the kms and usage as well.

I reckon 15,000 is stretching it a bit b/w changes but with modern engines and oil tech things are a lot better.

I still think and I know the dealer in Geelong (Rex Gorell) agree that the first service should be at 7,500km for an oil change (engines always use a bit more when running in) and 15,000 after that. They had put 7,500kms on the windscreen sticker.

I had to take mine in to the above dealer at approx 9,000km for a free top up when the low oil level came on. The other thing mentioned was if you don't use the reccomended oil / spec and you have an engine problem they may not honour the warranty, ie through taking a sample I assume..

OilBurna does your tdi actually show km's to the next service when you press the Service Button? Mine doesnt, so I had assumed the function wasnt enabled on Australian delivered cars..?

had 15,000km service done today at essendon vw they are only 10 mins from the city ie Moonee Ponds. you can catch a tram back if you like. Cost was $379 (they stated $381) up front so can't complain, and includes a free wash if you so desire and a coffee. No complaints from me, took them about 2 hours. They also do a full safety check (saw them doing part of it) and scan to see if any fault codes logged. They mentioned you can come back any time for a free oil top up if required. Overall would reccomend.

Mine will show km's and time ie days to the next service on the MFD.

My GTI burns oil - about 1Lt per 7,500kms.

I have heard others with 2.0TFSI engines consume a great deal more.

Apparently something to do with the fuel strattification injection system - though I dont know specifics......

My first service was $180, second was $160 (with fleet discount)

Yeah, our GTI chews through the oil. One litre every six thousand K's or so.

It was a bit concerning at first but it appears to be normal...!

according to vw up to 1 litre per 1000km is normal when running in...
