Hi Burna,

I've gone through the magic 100 in mid-March when it was still 1.49 - $A100.88 for 67.3 litres. That hurt.

That was followed by a close call of $A99.11 early April.

Prices have gone up considerably since then, and I'm not looking forward to the next one.

Obvious question: how do you get 25% off? Any hints would be most welcome.

"Safe farming" with your tractor ;-)!!

Michael

Farm Diesel Fuel Rebate. Available to primary producers.

On another note - $107.00 today to fill the tank. Lucky I only do that once a month. And the actually first tank of fuel we put in since picking it up in March.

So how does the petrol v diesel debate pan out? Cost v economy(distance traveled on a tank). Diesel v premium or 100 octane? How can you make the right decision when purchasing a new car?

Taking into account the fuel costs only, I'm looking at $A 0.09 to $A 0.12/km, depending on the economy achieved and the actual price of Diesel.

Don't have a comparison with petrol but I have a feeling that it's still more economical, or at least not more expensive, to have a Diesel. Don't forget the driving characteristics - relaxed but plenty of go if required.

Just my $A 0.09 - 0.12 ;-)!!

Michael

Luckily I am gettin better than7.5lt/100km around town so it's still cheaper to run that my wifes 120 BMW...

I paid 161 for my BP Ultimate today, cost $92 to top up the tank.

Unfortunately, my FPV GT-P is a thirsty little brute, and a tank will only last about 380kmsj:

All you Sydneysiders heading north up to Newcastle make sure you fill up
before leaving home.
Twin caltex at wyong selling Diesel yesterday at $1.75. filled up at my
usual servo BP at Normanhurst at $1.63. Who's ripping who off.

On one hand, I hate the high cost of oil and the translation to high petrol prices. I hate paying for petrol :(

On the other hand, our business goes crazy with high oil prices and we're flat out keeping up with demand for our services. Paying for the petrol or diesel isn't a problem, but it still hurts like hell to pay eighty bucks to fill up the Golf and over a hundred to feed the Q7!

It would be wrong for me to complain, I work for a rather large oil and gas companyj:

One of my tasks is marketing the stuff for the US$115+ per barrel that is talked about!!

You must have had a day off when June light sweet crude futures dropped to $110-ish :)

Or do we blame the Scottish for that... hm!

lol steve, if yr getting $110 and i'm getting $115, who's having a day off?j:

My mention of the $115 was in reference to the records recently set. thank god we have a strong aussie dollar to partially offset it, otherwise, we'd all be paying as much as $2.50/litre!!

What, they only give you 25% off? Gee, that'll cut their profit margin by nearly half ;-)!!

Only kidding, but certainly nice if you can get that sort of "discount".

lucky 25% off = work for oil company....

100% off = work for a company that has a fuel card

I've only got to put fuel in my wifes car (but that technically makes the Passat hers too)

Back on track...I worked out today that my TDI will save me around $600 for 20,000kms over my old Mazda 6 (95RON), even with the higher pump price.
Amazing what a saving of 2+ l/100kms makes!
Best thing though is the range...800+kms in city traffic.:)

Those are the reasons I bought a Diesel... I did same and came up with a similar saving compared to a 2lt petrol vehicle.

So nice to get below $90.00 for a tank of juice again... Pity that Diesel has not come down the same amount as petrol!

Diesel down 45c from its peak and petrol is down about 75c from its peak.

I was getting diesel cheaper than ULP in Feb this year... it wat 136c WTF!

I'm going for the diesel for all the good reasons plus when i go to sell the car in a few years time I reckon it will be 100% easier and also expect it have higher retained value. no doubt in a few years time fuel will be much higher.

Still waiting on 125tdi wagon ..... ordered june , "lucky" to get it before christmas :frown:.
