G'day guys,

I have recently purchased a 2.0 TDI MKV comfortline. There's a bit of oil around the turbine housing, but the motor doesn't use oil, or leak oil.

Goes like $%^ off a shovel too.

Is it normal for a film of oil hanging around the turbine housing?

Cheers

hi there David, welcome to the forum.

mine doesn't have any oil around the housing as you described but she did drink a lot of oil for the first 10-12K & completely settled down by the 15K service. I've got 43K in 3 years now & it uses very little oil at oil.

enjoy the torque!!

DSG or manual?

Cheers

Phil

No, it's not normal. The housing gets so hot that any oil should burn off very quickly. For it to be noticable there must be a fair amount. Because the health of the turbo depends upon lubrication it would pay to get it checked by a specialist asap

I had some persistent issues with oil on the engine in my MkV 2TDi Comfortline. After 4 visits to the VW service guys, they ended up relpacing a warped rocker cover :o

But all is good now, engine still performs brilliantly (just without the oil on the outside of the engine) :D

Thanks for the help guys. I'll get my head under it for a bit longer and have a closer look.

Its a DSG with 82K on the clock. SFA for a diesel. Brought for 20K

welcome mate,

likely its something simple like a not quite tight oil line union to the turbo.
