Chek out the price of diesel in NZ & it's in Wanaka, not one of the major cities. I wonder which excuse would be used to justify the disparity between Oz & NZ...... Our market's to small, no not that one.........it's based on the Singa, no not that one.......

That is actually good. I filled up my Cherokee this morning and i paid $1.65 per litre! But then you dont pay tax in Aus like you do in NZ.... (extra sticker on the windscreen in NZ)

So their prices are the opposite of ours.

It used to be that the diesel in NZ was much cheaper than unleaded - even more so than this illustration. Hence when I visit I get a Diesel Landcruiser for comfort!

its cheaper over there because its heavily subsidised for the farmers, but road going diesels have to deal with an extra road tax so the running costs equalling out to ours i recon. That road tax is just built into our diesel prices over here i think

Thats what it should be here ($1.44)! not the otherway round. Diesel should be the cheapest fuel after gas.

Diesel prices in australasia are disproportionately high because of world demand. The demand for diesel coming from india, china and fuelling the US's war's in the middle east put a lot of presure on the diesel price. our prices are set higher so that we are encouraged to use petrol instead....

like mishca said, theres a lot less gunk to go around these days.... ahh well, i like the train... and when its cheaper for me to take the train to work instead of driving my diesel golf running on b100, i will.... i think thats not too far away - once its about $2.60/l it'll be cheaper for me to take the train.

You can't compare the pump price for diesel in NZ against Australia.

In NZ, the pump price does not take into account the additional road tax payable. In Australia, that is included in the price. So the figures are misleading.

In NZ, the road tax/license is roughly NZ$33 per 1000km for a VW Golf. That is, an additional $30 thereabouts per tank or so of fuel. So when you take into account $1.44 per litre x 55l = $79.20 + $33 = $112.20,... it's no longer such a good deal.

NZ's road tax needs to be overhauled because it's not designed for passenger vehicles.

ugh

dont talk to me about the Price of Deisel here its disgusting

we dont even get nice desiel its **** quality and chews out the fuel pump seals and various other seals.. they decided to reduce the sulfur content or some bull****..

its crap..

the additonal Road user taxes as well (stupid sticker in the window is a ****.. its like 1000 bucks for 20,000kms.. thats what it cost me last time i paid up..

and we pay GST on Gas.. which is already heavily taxed "ROAD TAX" - which is essentially helen clarks excuse to give useless ****s more money.. our roads are attrotious.(sp?)

I work with my old boy we have three trawlers..the medium sized one uses about 30,000 litres of the **** every 5 days..

so instead of cosing 15,000 to fuel (when deisel was at 45cents.. it now costs almost 50,000 dollars (1.48 perlitre) for a 5 day fishing trip

we burn up to 2million litres a year.. and we are a small family owned business.....

cool eh!... NOT

BP 98 here is currently 2.02 and Mobil 98 is 1.97 ive changed to mobil for the time beign..

gah.. when i had my Deisel Carolla.. the Road Tax stickers and deisel were still cheap..

25 bucks to fill the tank.. and i would get 750 ks out of it..

Its ridiculous. And the thing is.. While ever the governments get a tax PERCENTAGE of the price they will never really clamp down on the fuel companies.
