Earlier this month we spent a week in Broken Hill form the 8th to 15th April 2008. We had spent a week there two years earlier, and having enjoyed the City so much, decided to return (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2651146).

Thia is an epic journey which will take a bit of time to post, so pop in every now & then and have a look.

We stopped at Terowie and I took this pic outside the old Imperial Hotel. We stayed there many times in the early 80s, as we were friendly with the owners. Alas, it is now closed.

The changes to Dietrich and the trailer are evident in this pic.

Today we decided to go on the road to Tibooburra. Prior to leaving Adelaide, I found an internet site (and I have been unable to find it again) with pics of a disused Railway line that went somewhere west of Tiboorburra. The line opened in about 1895 and was finally closed in about 1931 and was there to carry ore from new discoveries. Since we didn't use this road 2 years ago, we thought we'd do it.

The Map.

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/1188/day2mapso8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

On the way though, I "found" this T5 Ambulance. These are already becoming available in the Sydney auctions.

http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/1711/13dustydiertichtb3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

We returned to the main road and continued north. The Broken Hill area received alot of rain at one time in January. Here the road shows the signs of the heavy downpour with the wash away.

Did you note who manufactured the bull bar?

This looks different to the Qld Bullbars products - the popular nudge bar (I have seen heaps of these fitted to T5s) and the hideous hybrid front bar supplement (only ever seen it in their flyer).

Could be worth getting one when i get out there to convert to a camper.

While in BH, Cory rang to say three Ex Ambos went between $21 and $24. These were mid roof, LWB 4-Motion.

The Ambulance interior was stripped (refitted to a new one) so they looked just like the Transporters at your Dealership.

I decided we'd have lunch at the Maidens Hotel. This is not the original, as it burnt down. However, it was a friendly pub, with a generous serve. So after a couple of Carlton Draught (no German Bier this far north) we had a look at the Darling River to see how the river level had fared after the floods in south Queensland. The level seemed to be higher.

Next we had a look at Sunset Strip. A holiday "resort" that had the plud literally pulled out of it. From lake to desert, from water views to sand hills. While some of the dwellings were "shacks" (although top quality shacks) most were ordinary homes.

We heard there is a tour available at the Day Dream Mine. So, while I'm not a great miner, we thought we'd see what it was all about. While the road was dirt, the scenery was very good.

Into the Silverton Goal we went. After the promontion I read before we left, I had high expectations. However, there was little about the history of the goal, and more about the lifestyle of early Silverton. I got very excited about this pic of the Silverton Railway in the 1930s, but I'm not so sure it is of Silverton. Some landmarks don't fit. Note the number of houses in the picture.
