Hi Dubbers,

Have just filled the newby for the 1st time with slimely old diesel and by a rough guess got 7.8l/100km for around town (Perth) driving.
The average on the MF display was 6.7, so is the car an optimist, or I'm hoping the dealer was stingey with his full tank of gas?

Hi Westy.
First tank probably not a good start to work out your average.
As you mentioned you will not know how the car was filled.
Have found my MFD very accurate in the Jetta Its spot on to my manual
calculations.

Hi Oiler,

My first tank was about 8.5 - not filled to the top by the dealer (probably just the first click).

Right now my lifetime average (after 8300 km of mixed driving, some longer distances, plenty of medium distance communtes) is now 6.7 (best tank 5.9) - I am quite happy with that since I do like some application of the right pedal.

I find that my MFD is a little bit optimistic, pretty much exactly 10%. Oh well, as long as I know it ... .

Enjoy.

Seeya,
Michael

I do mostly city driving, my all time average floats between 7.2 and 7.4 most of the time. thought it would be better but i guess it gets a rare chance to stretch its legs. going to SA in a coupe of weeks so hoping for a decent bit over 1000km on the tank.

Thanks everyone for the prompt posts. I'm looking forward to improved economy on my real full tank.

Cheers!:)

Having done about 2200km I am getting a solid 7.5lt/100km and mostly around town/short trips...

Cant wait for a long drive to see the figures she returns...
