I know some people think it is not safe and dangerous. Blah Blah....But do you think i should stretch a 165 40 R16 on to a 16x7. Let me know your thoughts for and against please as i've never stretched tyres before...:?

Thanks.... LVD

They can definitely order tyres in. My local Beaurepaires shop (whom were willing to stretch tyres for me) was ready to order in more 195/45R16 as there were only 3 more left in Australia (two of which were in Sydney)!

As with issue of safety, I think something like a 195 on an 8" is reasonable but 165 or 155 on a 7" becomes a bit unsafe due to the load and speed ratings of the tyre. If they go on a light car like a Mk1, it *should* be OK, but it would be silly on a Mk3.

Depends on the tyre. Toyo T1R etc look hot because of the sidewall but lesser tyres look crap...

sorry ray ray i already inquired in this, any tyre company in aus can order ONLY aussie standards tyres.... aussie rules dont accompany 165/40 R16's unfortunatly :(

How is that safe???????????? :?

X2 tht looks too exreme for me. i'm all for stretch, but not to that level. I'd only even strech say 2 sizes less than recommended (ie 20mm) cause I wouldn't want to bust a seem...

So what is legal?

Does the rim have to be under the guard, or the tread of the tyre :?

Probably the whole lot! Depends who's doing the checking and what mood they're in.

it would come done size of tyre to rim
there is tyre fitment guide with minimum and max tyre size for the rim
and its not that much eg : 7 inch rim min is about an 205
so there wouldn't be much stretch so it wouldn't be an issue
because rim wouldn't stick out
mind you if you don't need a rwc no prob's

every tyre catalouge from any tyre brand has a listing of what tyre goes on what rim, a 205 accomidates 6.5 to 7.5 inch rims whereas a 195 accomidates 6.5 to 7 inch making my ture setup legal, a 165 tyres accomidates 5.5 to 6.5 inch rims

hmmm.. to start up an old thread again, does anyone know much about tyres4u?

are they some kind of distributor? cause their catalogue has bridgestone re040s in 165/50/15..

and i'm getting sick of my negative stretch. i have 195s on a 5.5 rim..
